Thanks very much. Never heard of the Vape-Safe until now. Looks like a good safety product.

Yesterday I sent an email to MFS asking them about this issue. No response so far. The MOD they are selling comes with one of these Joytech 18650 battery. I ordered a second one at the same time, but there was no indication on their description that it was unprotected. The vape-safe is on its way from Nhaler($9.00).I am not using them until the vape-safe arrives.

I am beginning to change my opinion of MSF. On this issue, no response to my email asking for confirmation that the Joytech 18650 battery is unprotected, no response in this forum thread to clarify their knowledge on the question rasied, and after receiving an email to review my purchase, I gave it 4 stars, but raised the issue that the battery supplied appeared to be unprotected and they have not published the review.

Hey guys, sorry for the delayed response. We've had several tech issues this week that had to be taken care of immediately to make sure that our orders were still going out in a timely manner. We've got our network working well again, but I really haven't had much time to browse the forums lately.

I am trying to get some more information from Joyetech regarding the batteries used in this product, but at first glance they do seem to be unprotected. If this is confirmed we will certainly make note of it on our site and inform our customers about any risks associated with using this product. However, with Joyetech's stellar reputation for quality and reliability it is hard to believe that this product is truly dangerous. I'm not saying that it is not dangerous because I don't have all the info yet, but it is just hard to believe that they would sell a dangerous product to their customers.

We are also looking into getting some known protected batteries in stock as a second option for our customers. In the coming weeks I can assure you that we will have a lot more information regarding this product and will update our site appropriately.

Thank you. Also got an email from Dustin saying the same thing. I agree that Joytech quality is excellent and I am interested in hearing their reply to this issue.

Thanks for looking into this Dustin. I too am surprised that there is a question, given the good reputation of Joyetech. But nonetheless, the question remains.

Perhaps the easiest way to get the answer would be to cut the casing off of one of your Joyetech 18650s. Protected batteries have a round circuit protection board about the size of a dime. This is why protected batteries are slightly longer than unprotected batteries. See photo...

And by the way, this is still one heck of a nice mod at a bargain price. I am using AW IMR 18650's in mine. Of all the vaping stuff I've purchased over the past year, this is the best $18 I ever spent.

You are right JimmyJet. It seems to me that the unprotected 18650s are 65 mm long and the protected ones are 68 mm long. That is not presented as a fact, just what I have observed in my search for 18650 batteries. The blue Joytechs are 65 mm long.
You must have bought the tube and switch separately. I bought the package that included the Joytech battery plus one additional battery.

Well we're still waiting for confirmation but in the meantime I've been looking into the Vape-Safe. Yes it is a good product. Basically it is a fuse designed to protect against a "hard short". This is a good thing of course.

But keep in mind that a "hard short" is a failure of the mod itself. Unprotected batteries can also fail (thermally) in other ways. So the Vape-Safe is only one layer of protection. Unprotected batteries can still have a thermal failure even with a Vape-Safe.

Just food for thought. Safety first.
