I was a pretty heavy smoker. Smoked at least a pack and a half a day for about 28yrs. I wasn't ready to quit smoking analogs but one day I decided I would give e-cigs a try and I was able to quit analogs right away. It's been 3 1/2 weeks since I've had a real cigarette. My eGo is awesome. The vapor production is great and I love the e-juices I have chosen. I don't miss the stink and expando lung feeling I experienced with analogs at all! I can vape in the house without feeling the guilt of stinking the place up with 2nd hand smoke.

I think buying your husband en eGo starter kit is the way to go. My partner and I got ours from Liberty Flights. We get our juices from Freedom Smokes USA. Get him some juices with pretty high nic levels, then over a little bit of time, I think he might go with lower levels. I have to vape pretty high nic levels in the mornings, after I eat, and right before bed. By the way...get him a bottle of Wyatt Earp e-juice! It's a tobacco flavor with hints of other flavors that are wonderful! I looooove it!! I'm letting my little sample bottle steep for a couple more days before I start vaping it and it's hard for me to stay out of it till then.

Anyway, good luck to you and your DH! I think what you're wanting to do for him shows how much you love him! You're a sweetheart for wanting to do this for him!

+ another one for the eGo but do agree it does take a bit of commitment and will power from the smoker to make this work.

We just started vaping around 8 weeks ago. What I found is that a battery with a high mah will require less frequent re-charging. The Ego and Riva have a minimal 650 mah and work up from there. Someone on ECF posted that 100 mah roughly equals one hr of use. Extra batteries are a must so that there is no interruption in vaping while the battery is charging. We got Riva 750 mah kits and a third battery each to start with and that is working fine. Mods (custom made PV's take batteries that are not part of the PV and available in places other than E-Cig shops. We have some 18650 mods that have a 2400 mah. Recharging the battery on these is every two days for us and the vapor is a bit thicker than the Ego/Riva. We do like these better. The Silver Bullet at AltSmoke.com comes to mind first but there are many others that take this battery. The Riva/Ego PV's a pocketable. The 18650 mods may be a bit big for the pocket. Almost forgot, we are using the 510 type of battery connectors and cartomizers. Many people use these and they work fine. I'm sure others will chime in with other recommendations.

Next you should pick up some cartomizers. Boge is a popular brand. Be sure to pick up carto's rated for the 3.2 - 3.7 volts of the Ego/Riva and/or 18650 mods. Ask your vendor what they recommend.

Next you will need e-juice. Many people look for tobacco flavors when starting out. We moved away from that taste quickly. My main vapes are cappaccino and English Toffee. My wife likes peach. 18 to 24 mg (two packs a day maybe 24mg) would be a good guess for a starting place.

    So, PV, Cartomizers, e-juice.

What I didn't mention was the 5 volt and up or variable volt mods. He may like these more but ya got to start somewhere and what we are using meets our needs. I also didn't mention atomizers. These are great but require more fussing around and topping off more frequently. Get DH started out simple and with little re-charging and topping off issues. Let him decide if he wants to go further.

Many people request starting off with a PV that looks like an analog (real cigarette). While these work well the batteries require recharging more often and he will go through several (or more) a day and that may scare him away from e-cigs.

Ok I see that everyone has given some great information. So I will now throw my two cents in since I have only been fully vaping for four days.

I was a pack a day smoker for 28 years. When I quit on Monday I would notice that I would get a really bad craving. All that was needed was to vape a higher mg and I was fine. I have already noticed that my tastebuds are coming back.

Here is how I did everything for my partner and I after we had gotten a couple of cheap e-cigs from the store that didn't work or vape for a hill of beans.

    1) Please don't buy any from you local supermarkets. They are cheap, and the cartomizers won't vape for that long, plus he will get aggravated at having to charge it every couple of hours and he will go back to analogs.

    2) Make sure that when you buy your kit that you get him at least 2 packages of 510 whistle tips cartridges, and 2 packages of 510 cartomizers that he can fill. He will make the choice of if he wants to drip into the carts and on the atty, or if he wants to fill up the cartomizers and just puff away. (I also bought us a pack of cartomizers so that when we have to leave the house we can have them to pre-fill with the juice we are vaping and go.) I would also get him a nice hard case for the Joye Ego as he will be able to carry the supplies he needs in it for the day as well, and possibly a back up 510 atomizer. Last night I thought I had ruined one of my atty's because I was cleaning it and pulled the wick out of it. Jumped on here and found that I didn't ruin it, but that I will have to keep it wet from now on, but still will be ordering a couple of back ups just in case something happens.

    3) I would make sure that you get him a good kit like the Joye Ego. After many days and hours of researching the 801's, 901's, and such we found that the Joye Ego would be the best fit because we are able to vape 6 - 10 or more hours a day without recharging them constantly. (It always depends on how heavy the person is on vaping to how long the battery lasts) With him being a 2 pack a day smoker he's going to vape like a fiend.

    4) Make sure that if you order a Joye Ego that it has a Silver band on it as this is the authentic Joye Ego. We ordered ours on sale at Liberty Flights and they include 2 atomizers, 2 cones, 2 attys, 2 batteries, the charger, etc. It has everything as we usually have one mg that is a higher strength on one for when we get a craving, and the other is our lower mg for an all day vape.

    5) Juice - I knew that we would want to try different mg's, and different PG/VG, and flavors. He will need at least 60ml in E-juice to get him started. Usually 60ml lasts a pack a day smoker a month, but I have a feeling that he is going to go through it. I sat down for three days and decided with freedomsmokesusa that I would go with mainly 10ml, and some 5ml in the juices I wasn't to sure if we would like or not. Get him some tobacco juices, but warn him that they aren't going to taste the same as his analog, but to just give it time. My partner loves the tobacco flavors, but she has also been vaping for three weeks (she used the cheap kits, where I couldn't.) Now yesterday she had a Marlboro cart and it was finally tasting good.Get him a couple of fruity flavors as well as some tobacco. The tobacco strength mentioned above in both those strengths will be a good variety for him. Honestly, I have read that when anyone has given up on them that they didn't up their strength to meet their craving and needs to keep trying. This is like the first time that you started smoking and trying out brands and what not. You can't find it on the first try and he will find certain companies that sell the juices that he likes, and ones he doesn't as well as juices that he loves, and ones he can't stand.

    7) Get him a tool-box to keep his supplies in as well. It doesn't have to be a big one, but juices, cleaning supplies, cartomizers, Fluval for refilling, whistle tips, and what not need a nice little place of their own, we bought one with little cubbies on the top for the carts and what not.

Ok, lol I think that's pretty much enough info to get things set up for him. I am still learning everything and still consider myself a newbie. So yes he is going to need to get on this site and there are tons of helpful people on here all the time! They will make sure that he has all his questions answered, as well as there are many great threads, and videos on here and youtube to watch.

I love vaping as our kids keep telling us with the different liquids that we are vaping that it smells so good in the house now.

If you have further questions please ask them as we all are here to help.

It really all depends, as everyone on here has already said. Truthfully, you are going to run in to exactly the same response that most people get asking that question...buy an ego. For some, that is a wonderful choice, but you need to look at all options.

First, look at the obvious. Has he said he wants to quit, or is this your hope? If he hasn't mentioned wanting to, then I would certainly go for a 510/ego type kit. It is cheap enough so if he does not like it, you have not wasted a lot of money. If he has really shown a desire to quit, then, for the sake of not wasting a lot of money on a 'journey', I would start with a mod that gives you some options.

There are many out there that give you the ability to vape at several different voltages so that he can, for himself, decide on what works for him. Or, he may start off liking 3.7v and soon move up to 5-6v (like I and so many do) The 510's and ego's vape at *3.7v, and that is all it will ever do. Only option with that is to put on an LR atomizer and get the feel of a higher voltage. Not bad, but will it be what works for him? You won't know.

I would suggest looking at a few of the main go to models out there and take a look and find one that looks close to your DH's taste. I'll provide a few links to get you started.

These are my personal favs, but there are many, and I'm sure others will chime in with theirs! Good luck to you and your DH!!

Proudly vaping away on my DARWIN, PROVARI, GLV3, VMOD and EGO VV PT

If he keeps it up, I'd be a lookin for him to increase his life insurance. That always ticked me off when I was younger. Wifey would say either quit or double the life insurance. I finally got the drift. Best deal on kits I've seen lately is at Liberty Flights. $30 for a kit. Juice? Who knows. Most just buy a few samples of what they think sounds good. You really won't know until he tries it. I prefer cartomizer to carts. Just my preference. Thousands of others prefer carts. So, I guess he has to try both and decide for himself which he prefers. I smoked 2.5 packs a day for over 50 years. I now use an average of 3.6 mL's of juice a day. Some days more, some days less. But, I pretty much have my PV in my hand all the time except when eating and sleeping. Good Luck with his quit.

    Cheers,

I am a newbie of only about 30 days. I was a heavy smoker and after reading, reading and reading...and watching Youtube videos, I decided to start out with a mod...and have been very
happy with it, even if it is the only thing I know at this point. It gives the throat hit and the vapor which will become very important. I am completely off analogs only after 2 weeks of vaping. I am on my 9th day today!!. It was easy. But I also agree with several others, this needs to be partly his idea as well. I was showing heavy signs of probable COP and I wanted to feel better. So offer the Christmas Gift with hopes that he will be the one to see the importance of quitting. We ALL know we need to quit, but we ALL have to make up our minds we want to as well.
I went with the PROVAPE, with carts. Very, very easy to use. More exspensive than most at first, but I have already paid for it in 2 weeks.
Good luck to you both and maybe see if HE will come to this forum and read the success stories of others. That really helped me ALOT !!!
