FOUND: Cheap bottle and possible peppermint flavour
Hello everybody,
I'm new here but I've been reading this forum since 2 weeks already and I'm starting with my little chemistry lab (making my own e-juice).
Today I was in Duane Reade to buy groceries and I was also looking for some kind of convenient bottles to store my on-the-go liquid and I found this:
sweetbreath.com/dropstop.jpg
sweetbreath.com/breathdrops.html
The price is really cheap: 1.69 for 2 bottles. The idea I had at the moment was to just flush away the content and use the bottles BUT... when I came home I found this:
Contents
SD alcohol, water, glycerine, natural and artificial flavors, polysorbate 20, sorbitol, sodium saccarin, FD&C yellow #5, FD&C blue #1
So, theoretically it is not so far away from the average content of our e-liquid. The Polysorbate 20, the sorbito and the sodium saccarin don't sound so so so dangerous (just by the name, i mean
).
I tried one drop in the already filled cartridge and I got a great peppermint flavor. Probably I should try to make a small batch with a proper percentage (like 5-10%) but so far so good.
Now, what do you think about it?

I would use the bottles but i would not put it in my atomizer. Sweet is a red flag for sugar even if it is a sub. A known atomzer killer.
The Polysorbate 20, the sorbito and the sodium saccarin don't sound so so so dangerous there is to many other options of flavors available to take a risk like this. You don't want to be inhailing any chemicals that you do not need to do even if it is to save a buck or two. See the DIY section for other alternatives. Sounding good may be bad for you.
Do a little homework
Peace!

No oil, that's good, but I am wondering about the polysorbate 20, sorbitol and sodium saccarin. I don't know about these things but I think I would be careful. Plus you have some dyes in there.
I don't worry much about food coloring myself but there is a school of thought that they could gunk up the atty. I haven't had a problem with that but I really dilute the darker colors.
As for the sub sugars? That's more worring. I would try it but dilute and use an atty you can afford to lose! Sugar burns and that's a fact.
Hopefully somebody who knows more will answer. It's a weekend night, more will be on-line in the a.m.
Welcome and good for you on the DIY!

Saccharin is an artificial sweetener.
"In its acid form, saccharin is not water-soluble. The form used as an artificial sweetener is usually its sodium salt"
Saccharin is used in some sweet flavored juices as well. I've also seen stevia used as a sweetener.
Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol. It also functions as a sweetener/sugar substitute. Its very common in mouth wash.
polysorbate 20 is a wetting agent. It reduces surface tension so that the liquid spreads out more evenly. Which is why you will also find it in numerous cleaning agents.
