There is a throat kick but it is a smooth hit to the throat and very refreshing IMO.
After reading Brian's post, I decided to try it tonight. I used one of my 30ml bottles of coffee flavor that I got from .......... and I added 1 menthol crystal to it. I had boiled some water and set my bottle in it - within a minute my crystal was melted and ready to go.
I have to say I love the taste of this. It is not real strong but as Janet stated, my sinus are clear. So far so good. Will try for the next couple of days to see how it holds up.
I got some liquid stevia. A concentrated natural sweetener made from the stevia plant. I put a few drops in my homemade menthol mix hoping to get it to taste like something. It kind of worked. It did make the liquid sweeter and had some "taste" to it, but I really don't like the taste of stevia. I used it for a day and discovered that it turned the cartridge filler dark brown, therefore, I don't think I will be using stevia anymore. Still looking for something to add for sweetness. Maybe sacharin (sp?) would work, but I think anything with this sweetener tastes like chemicals. I'll let you all know if I try this.

Hi Janet. A while back I tried xylitol because it's not bad for teeth and it's not got question marks over health risks in the same way other sugar replacement products have. The good stuff made from bark tastes nice, not like chemicals. I used about 5% in my diy mix and for a while it was fine but I didn't try it for very long before increasing the concentration to about 10%. Then I noticed that my atomisers were getting clogged. I'm almost sure it was the high concentration of xylitol that was the problem. I didn't really give it a proper try before giving up, my atomisers cleaned up ok though.
I'm finding that the LorAnn candy flavourings I use add some sweetness and appear to be atomiser friendly.
Janet,
I smoke e-puffer cigs, and you are right, their liquid is very expensive. I had been smoking their high nicotine carts & refilled with their low nicotine menthol liquid. I promptly developed an irritated & sore throat. Thought I might just be getting sick, but no, when I switched back to the new carts my throat felt fine.
There is something about e-puffer menthol liquid which seems very strong & irritating, even in the low nicotine version. Don't know if it is just the menthol version or all flavors. My advice would be to save some money & try to find liquid elsewhere. On all other products though, I have found e-puffer to be a very classy, reliable supplier. Great customer support. It just takes a few days extra for the Canada mail system to get in gear.
Thanks Sara for the advice. I don't think I'll be buying any ePuffer liquid. Kate, what do you mean by "the good stuff made from bark"? I'd like to try that. Also xylitol. Where do you get it?

This is the stuff I was thinking of Janet - All Xylitol Is Not Created Equal It's nicer than the cheaper xylitol made from corn.
I got mine from a supermarket but I don't know where would stock it in the States. There is a link for buying some online here - Global Sweet: Smart Sweet, Xylitol-Powder, 1.5 lb. Jar This looks expensive to me, you might be able to find a better deal elsewhere.
