Default 'Bomb' alert and e cigarette, uk

Hi all, today we had a 'bomb' security alert on a megabus. A swat type armed team of police were called out after a passenger saw smoke coming from a someone's bag and said they were acting extremely suspiciously...it turned out to be smoke from an e cig which closed a motorway for hours...
i'm not sure of the details, why it was smoking etc but I'd guess the suspicious activity was someone stealth vaping.I wish people wouldn't do this. That kind of misunderstanding is just the type of incident that the government could use to ban e cigs. Do you stealth vape ? It's made me decide not to at all not because 'm against it, but because the uk are bound to try and ban them in the future as they're enjoyed by too many and stop them smoking analogs and we coukd'nt have people enjoying a drug with the government's blessing can we? Unless it's anti social dangerous
alcohol of course then it' absolutely fine :) x

I knew that was it. As soon as I read a news report saying " an eyewitness said that someone was pouring liquid into a box" I knew it was a vape refill! Until more widespread acceptance, stupid stuff like this could cause knee-jerk government reaction like a ban on e-cigs.
This whole escapade cost thousands in taxpayers money, watch the backlash now against vaping.
Dumb ass shoulda refilled at home.

OMG That was all over the news this morning in the states. Didn't connect the dots at the time. Now it makes sense.

BBC News - Fake cigarette caused M6 police Megabus coach swoop
I know as soon as I heard I was really annoyed and am waiting for the debate about whether e cigs are acceptable.we'll have the anti smokers not liking smokers giving up with e cigs lot saying they confuse people.i wish the uk would educate people and that capers would use a bit of common sense before they ruin it for all of us :s

It's concerning for sure, the police don't like having a red face at the best of times, let alone when the eyes of the entire world are upon them...

Sheesh! Methinks he needs to practice his 'double inhalation' technique and switch to 100%PG if he wants to stealth-vape among Brits who are scared of their own shadows and clutch at 'Elfin Safety'.

I have to assume if the vapor was coming out of a bag, this was NOT an electronic cigarette --- as we use it for nicotine...
Unfortunately being labeled as an electronic cigarette certainly isn't gonna help our image.

I live nearby and it would seem some idiot on board has caused a load of trouble by not asking the vapour head " What are you doing?" I mean is any terrorist really interested in the Mega/ Magic Bus going from wherever to wherever. Over the top paranoia by the person who called the police... Luckily the Toll road is about as busy as a country lane on a Sunday... Now if had of been the M6??

From reading the atricle the smoke was coming out of the bag, not the person. I would have been a little concerned myself about smoke coming out of a bag. Not call the police scared, but concerned enough to tell the person their backpack was on fire, as my first guess would have been a smoldering cigarette that fell into the bag or someone who didn't quite get the cigarette out before putting the other half back in the pack. If it was smoke from the guy, I would have asked that he stop smoking if I didn't know about pv's.
