    Default Another Newbie Thread

    Hello guys,

just received my ego vaping kit today. I ordered my first flavor (Redbull, 24mg, 10%pg:90%vg). Vaping it, i feel my throat is a little irritated. Not much but its a little scratchy. Is it the nicotine level and will reducing the nicotine level to 18mg help? Or is it the 10%pg?

Prior to purchasing, i tried my bro's, which was Redbull, 18mg 100%vg and did not have the issue of dry/scratchy throat, just that i couldnt feel the smoking hitting the lungs.

Need to order another juice soon, but really don't want to go through the trouble of trying out so many different set-ups before finding a one i like. I believe the experts could provide some insight onto this?

    I'm planning to order either:

    A) 18mg, 10%pg:90%vg

    B) 18mg, 100%vg

A little history about myself: Prior to vaping, i was smoking Marlboro Lights, at about 1 pack a day.

I hope this post finds you guys well.

    Vape well people!

Welcome to ECF! Some people have sensitivities to PG. Nic is responsible for what is called throat hit, which a lot of people feel is a necessary part of vaping. You are using so little PG right now, it seems unlikely that is the problem, unless you are real sensitive to it. It might be that you are not used to what is called throat hit here which comes largely from the nicotine in your juice. Unless you are also getting nauseated, or headaches (signs of too much nicotine), you might want to just keep trying it for a while and see if it becomes more comfortable before you go 100% VG or lower the nicotine concentration.

I was on a pack of Marlboro light menthols per day prior to vaping. I noticed after a while of not smoking regular cigarettes my throat was less irritated but as soon as I would cheat and have a regular my throat felt raw with the ecig. The nic level definitely makes a difference but I think your throat needs some time to heal from the damage regular cigs cause.

Hi and welcome to ECF. I began on 36 mg BUT some have started on 18 or 24.
Prior to purchasing, i tried my bro's, which was Redbull, 18mg 100%vg and did not have the issue of dry/scratchy throat, just that i couldnt feel the smoking hitting the lungs.
Sounds like it may be the PG that's irritating your throat- pg enhances TH and many have a sensitivity to it.
    Good Luck

Hi, when vaping you are taking your nicotine a different way to what your body (and throat) has become used to. I had a irritated throat for a couple of weeks when i began vaping.

Always good practice in the early weeks of vaping to keep a bottle of water or glass of water and sip regularly. I think you'll find your throat will adjust quite quickly.

    Good luck

First Welcome you will get lots of help here. IMO I would say it's the nic level 24mg is a little strong to start. Throat hit is mostly from nicotine, and you have to remember you are starting out and trying to vape like you smoke don't inhale to your lungs it is not necessary. With vaping you want to exhale through your mouth and nose, the nicotine absorption is through the membranes in your mouth and sinuses. Alot of people will say PG reaction if you believe it is this then cut down to say 60/40 PG/VG this is what I had to do, I loved the flavor of 100% PG but just it made me sick so I reduced the pg and am fine now. As for nic levels I have a method you should buy 11mg 18mg 24mg all of one flavor if you cant feel the 11mg bump up to 18mg if this is too much you may have to find 16mg i sat at 18mg for awhile now I buy based on how much I will vape it. If I am going to chain vape a flavor I get 18mg if I am going to drip and relax and enjoy it I get 24-36mg. Another thing I tell people is if you never drank bottled water before START this habit is most pleasurable if you are hydrated, dehydrated vaping is both miserable and frustrating. Wow that's alot to throw at you but better to get all the advice you can.

    Enjoy your journey,
    Yutty

I was getting the same thing when i switched to vaping, one piece of advice i was given what i first started that i still consider gospel to this day is to drink lots of water to keep your fluid levels topped up. I find vaping can dry out your mouth and that is what was causing me to get a scratching sensation in my throat. I find having a big glass of water on the go when vaping helps a lot
