Well, that didn't work, and the battery is already dead.

Not having a good first impression of E-cigs at all. I thought the joye was supposed to be so friggin great.....

I am sorry to hear about the battery problem(s). This is the main reason I am switching to a mod.

I also started to get the bad taste problem after a few days. I found that my carts were drying out, and I was starting to burn the wicking fibers in the atomizer. You definitely need to keep the atty moist. I was also vaping like I was smoking a cig, and the atomizer was getting very hot.

I ended up removing the wick from the atomizer to get rid of this taste. DO NOT DO THIS. Removing the wick will drastically decrease the life of the atomizer. After I did this my atomizer died within days (I did this with two and the other died a day later). It also causes the atomizer to flood much easier.

If dripping a few drops on the atty did not clear it up then I am not sure (other then burned wick) what the problem is.

There are certainly problems with e-cigs. However, I have come to the point where I can deal with topping off, dead attys etc... It is much better then cigs or expensive NRT's.

Did you buy a kit? Most Joye kits i have seen come with two atomizers/attys.

    I hope everything works out.

Did you only order one battery??

There IS a learning curve and you can't just buy one battery and one atty and be good forever. The system needs maintenence & care. But compared to cheapo minis you buy at malls or expos, the Joye 510 is WORLDS better. There is a reason so many here recommend it - so when it's "bad" it's usually user error (as was in our case, too.) Once you get used to it, they are great.

One necessity with a 510 is the PCC and extra battery - you need at least 2 to use throughout the day (swapping them out to recharge as they die.)

The atomizers often come with some sort of coating on them - often referred to as "primer fluid." If you start vaping straight out of the box, you will have to suffer through the taste until it fades from use of e-juices. However, when you get a new addy, you can do some things to minimize or eliminate that happening. You can clean the new addy in diet cola or vodka, rinse well, blow through the hole on the end to get out excess water and let dry overnight. Then drip some of the e-juice directly on the atomizer coil before vaping. For the first couple of days, keep directly dripping two drops on the coil before, until it's "seasoned" like a cast iron skillet. Try not to swap out flavors on the same atty - use a different atty for each flavor. Remember - the attys have their own wicking material built in and retain some flavor of the juice that was used.

Keep topping off the cart frequently, so it doesn't get dried out and get scorched, causing a burnt taste that is difficult, if not impossible to get rid of.

I've been using the same atty (on 2 batteries) for over 2 weeks and the flavor & vapor is awesome. Once you learn how to use and treat your 510 it'll perform well for you!

I shelved my 510 for reasons similar to what you are experiencing and invested in a Janty Stick with a 6 month warranty and a 3-6 hour long battery life. The carts hold more liquid and the batteries are less than 4 dollars to replace. The kit comes with an extra battery and a holder to carry the spare (as well as an extra cart) in side pockets.

Once the longer life batteries came out for the 510 I decided to buy one and try again. Yes, they lasted longer and appeared more consistent but still required frequent charging and rotating of batts. I purchased a usb bypass which I could use while at my computer that helped extend my vaping time...but it was also inconsistent (possible bad wiring???).

So I alternate using my JS with the 510. The 510 offers a warmer vapor which is great for the cigarette type experience and the JS is cooler but more plentiful and lasts longer. A back up e-cig can be a wondrous thing...

Disclaimer: Please note that I only have purchased Janty products and have no experience with other brands so my experience is limited in regards to the spectrum of available products that may aid your search for an e-cig that works for you. Perhaps others can offer suggestions for a back up or new primary e-cig.

I'm only on day 2 with my new 510 (no analogs) and I agree the taste has been pretty bad. I've read in a few areas there is an issue with the primer. This afternoon I dropped a couple drops of juice on my atty, heated it up and blew it out from the batt end like described in this thread. Cleaned my cart really well with hot water, picked up some PTB, my Johnson Creek juice arrived minutes later and I'm now vaping Summer Peach and WOW, I can really tell a difference. One thing I do want to point out, that I hadn't expected...do all the juice flavors have a "smokey" layer to them? I've been lurking on this site for weeks until my starter kit arrived and I've not heard anyone mention this? I guess I expected peach to be peach, with no other notes/ tastes? Surely this isn't true of all liquid? Should I be looking for an unflavored nic juice and add my own Lorran flavoring from TW? Any suggestions? My original carts were Ecopure "Rich", actually want to get away from the whole tobacco flavor if I can.

    Newbies newbies newbies,
the reason you taste burnt plastic is because that is exactly what it is, all carts come with standard polyfill fibers, they get caught underneath the bridge of the atty and burn, you can clean it out CAREFULLY with a paper clip and some needle nose tweezers, DO NOT REMOVE ANY METAL FIBERS,
Research Dripping, and look for PTB mods in the modders section, there is a learning curve before you get the right filler that works best for you, but POLYFILL SUCKS BOTO.
As far as Juice: I recommend Rockymountainvapors for price, (i think there stock is low right now though) V4L has a whole bunch of different stuff, Electronicstixs has the best taste IMO, next to Johnsons creek. and dietsmokes or ecigexpress for speed,
I really recommend RY4 for tobacco taste, If your a marlboro fan, but dont like the marlboro taste, look for KENT

If you started vaping right after the water rinse you may be getting steam influencing the flavor. I rotate two attys, the one that I used for the day gets a rinse at night and the new atty begins duty the next day. That gives the rinsed atty a good 36hrs to dry.

First time I did the rinse I blew it out and dripped right away and whoopah!, rum and steam are NOT a good combo lol.

Thanks Nestran, since I have a few extra atty's, I think I'll go douse them in vodka now. Don't ever want to get that darned primer taste again, yuck.

I just received my 510 today and noticed it tasted disgusting. I'm not sure if it's the juice in the carts that came with it, or the atomizer. I tried your method (without juice, didn't come in yet) and blew through the battery end. I also tried putting a bit of paper towel in to soak up whatever is in there. The atomizer is always smoking. Is this normal? I was under the impression that the atomizer was just a heat source, and all vapor is produced from the juice.

I really don't like the taste of this vapor. I tried some of my cousin's juice and it was pretty good (so that's what I bought to be safe). I would like to use the e-cig right now, but I am worried that I'm inhaling some nasty primer vapor from the atomizer. Is there anyway to completely clean the atomizer with minimal risk of damaging it?

    Any help would be appreciated.

I just got the 510 in the mail and I had this problem too. It's probably, as someone said here, the fibers getting caught under the atomizer, burning, and making that great taste that's so awesome

I cleaned out the first Atomizer, tried the next, using the method of putting a few drops on it and running it that way first. Then tried - worked much, much better.

This mofo gives you a headrush, which is interesting
