Default Too Good to be True?

    Basic Questions:

    1) I smoke about a pack of Camel Lights a day. How much liquid nicotine would I be going through with the ecig in a week(estimate)? Would it be cheaper than smoking typical cigarettes?

    2) Will ecigs give me that same hit in the back of my throat that the typical cigs do? Can you get as much smoke? Does it taste the same?

    3) I mentioned I smoked a pack a day. Will I be able to take as many cigarette breaks and spend the same amount of time smoking with the ecig as I currently do with my normal cigarettes?

    4) I read that normal cigs can give you your nicotine faster through use of carbon monoxide, etc... True? if this is true I will probably never give up that first morning cig. But would be VERY excited to find an alternative for the rest. Something that is cheaper/healtier/easier.

    5) Do they require a lot of maintenence?

    6) Mini or regular size? What's the difference? I would perfer it to look like a typical cigarrette. It can be slightly larger.

Thanks. I'm sure a lot of this has been asked before and I did do some searching but I mostly learned about more advanced stuff. I hope these aren't too good to be true.

    1. On average, I believe most esmokers go through about 2ml per day. Something being *cheap* can't necessarily be defined especially when it comes to ones health. Can it be, sure ... Will it be ... that's up to you and your spending habits.

    2. Yes. Most cartridges/liquids do have a throat hit. The only one that doesn't seem to is any and all zero nicotine liquid. Taste is user dependent. It doesn't taste the same as a real smoke, but its also not an easy thing to describe.

    3. Sure ... Chances are, you will probably be esmoking more as you will soon learn if you decide to go for it.

    4. Analogue cigs do have carrying agents that allow the nicotine to be absorbed much faster, whether thats carbon monoxide or not, I'm not quite sure. Trust me, if you need that nic hit, get a 24mg or 36mg juice ... its will crave your nic craving ...

    5. Yup, sure do. Drainage/Cleaning of atomizers, charging batteries, etc...

    6. This is up to you. The benefits of a full size ecig/cigar is that you get a longer cartridge and battery life. If you can't stand the size, then you only have mini's left.

hope this helps bud ... good luck

The thing to bear in mind is that your up-front smoking costs will be high. Once you have settled in to e-cigs you'll find that this can calm down a bit - but it is tempting to try different models (and push your costs up again). If you only buy pre-filled cartridges it will cost you more than topping-off with e-liquid, and straight e-liquid will cost you more than cutting it 50/50 with glycerine. The parts of an e-cig have limited lifespans and in due course need replacement. Will it cost less? It could do - but it will depend on you. Make some time this weekend to read through this forum before you buy anything - that WILL save you some money

To replace a pack a day habit you'll use between 10 and 15ml of juice a week. How much nicotine you use would depend on the strength of the juice 0mg to 36mg per ml.

    2) Will ecigs give me that same hit in the back of my throat that the typical cigs do? Can you get as much smoke? Does it taste the same?
Hi strength juice will give you the hit and you can add some VG (vegetable glycerine if you want tons of vapour

    3) I mentioned I smoked a pack a day. Will I be able to take as many cigarette breaks and spend the same amount of time smoking with the ecig as I currently do with my normal cigarettes?
I have completely replaced my cigarette regime with e-cigs in 4 weeks.

I haven't read that but I find my morning cig has been replaced by a quick hit on 36ml juice - I don't even think about looking for the cigs anymore.

    5) Do they require a lot of maintenence?
Yes - that's part of the fun

    6) Mini or regular size? What's the difference? I would perfer it to look like a typical cigarrette. It can be slightly larger.
A mini 901 is the best to start - it's cheap enough and gives good vapour.

I replaced my pack a day the second I started on the ecig. I have not touched a analog since. The danger is Im smoking more on the ecig than I did on the analog.
Im also using more nicotine. I can tell you though I have not had a nicotine craving since day one. I use 36mg nic liquid in a dse601 pipe and it is so strong that I never have a nic fit. I use it to much.
I although in almost 10 days have only gone through $15 worth of liquid. So if I cut down on the ecig to where I was with analogs I would be under $3 per week in expense.

Hi Minus, welcome to the forum.

Higher nicotine doesn't necessarily mean more harshness or hit, there are other factors to take into account such as pH, atomiser efficiency and additives in the eliquid. Raising your nicotine intake only increases tolerance, you will need more and more for the same effect. Some people overdose with eliquid, it can be dangerous.

If you currently smoke 20 x 0.8mg cigs and you change to esmoking 2ml of eliquid then you will need to use 8mg eliquid to replace the same amount of nicotine. Using 36mg eliquid will give you the equivalent of 90 x light cigs of nic. You do not need to use extra high nic eliquid to quit cigs, it is a myth and a dangerous one. It increases health risks and tolerance and is not necessary for throat hit.

I personally discounted all initial investment costs as "price for my lungs". If you do that, I believe continued vaping instead of smoking will be (much) cheaper or at least at the same cost level - with all the health benefits of non smoking.

Actually, as this is not a tobacco product, fair comparison would probably be the one with other nicotine replacement tools/terapies.

    Thanks for the responses.
Only thing I'm worried about is taste and maintenance. It sounds like you have to replace batteries and atomizers far to often.

That is the downside. Even though the e-cig is improving - it is a slow process. Very frustrating at times....

OK, I just got back to reading. And have a few more questions.
Is there basically 3 types of E Cigs: super mini, mini, and pen?
When a cartridge runs out of nicotine, am I just going to be taking the large bottle of nicotine that I purchased and putting a few drops it the cartridge to keep smoking?
