901 PT + 2xNiMH batts?
Wondering what anybody thinks about this....
I was thinking of sacrificing a working 901 manual PT, and making an el cheapo mod like this.... taking a 3 battery case and attaching (maybe duct tape) to the bottom of the PT below the button, and cutting the usb wire and wiring it to the battery case... then I would pop in 3 AAA NiMH batteries... and voila! I dont care what it looks like.... just wondering if this could work? NiMH would allow me to charge in my existing charger...Maybe I could somehow keep the USB wire AND battery pack and charge it directly by plugging it in.... Your thoughts?

Also I really prefer to avoid any custom job with Lithium batts, dont want any explosions lol

Great idea --I'm an oldtechno to -- but as the poster above mentioned.......be real careful.
Futher more, the main thing is you use the male and female part that join together, from the battery to the atomizer...I think some of the modders have already measured these things out and what 'tap n dye' fittings to use...you might consult them first.

Save your PT. You want to build what is called a box mod, or sometimes a "juicebox" mod. I built one of those using about $10-12 worth of parts from Radio Shack. They sell a power connector that fits a 901 atomizer so you won't have to pry one off of a 901 battery. A search of this forum will turn up plenty of posts on various methods of building one of these. I used a 4xAA (not AAA) battery box, wired for 3xAA NiMH batteries. The empty battery slot is where the atomizer connector and the switch fit. This box still fits in my shirt pocket and the AA batteries have much more capacity than AAA. Also, it is a lot easier to fit a connector and switch into the 4xAA size box. The 4xAA battery box also has an on/off switch that you can wire up so you can disable the push button for safety. Don't use the cheap, flimsy push button switches, though. I ruined half a dozen of those before I got the heavy (3 Amp rated) switch. If you use the RS connector, it is a type N or type M power connector. Either one should work, but you will need to short two of the three connections together for this purpose. There are many threads on the forum about these mods. The following might be helpful:

You may also want to search the forum for "NicoStick". If you can overcome your fear of Li-Ion batteries, one of these can be built using a 2xAAA battery box and a single 10440 size Li-Ion battery. This is a very compact design created by a forum member named nicowolf. The batteries and chargers are readily available as they are used in the e-cigar and the JantyStick, as well as some miniature flashlights.
