Default Looking for some buying advice...

    Hey,

I am looking to buy some form of e-cigarette for my dad who has been smoking for 45+ years. At this point i am not really trying to help him quit, I'd just like to have him be able to get back inside the house(mom won't let him smoke inside the house, so he lives in "his house" --the garage).

I have looked around a bit on this forum and the wiki page re: e-cigarettes but i don't think i have enough knowledge of/experience with smoking to be able to make an proper decision as to which product to purchase.

I think something that looks and feels most like a cigarette would be the best and the most bland tobacco flavor(he smokes Basic..) would be just fine.

What is the best? What simulates a real cigarette the best? Thanks a lot.

    Joe

Is he around 60 years old or more? He might not want to **** around with the maintenance and replacement aspects. Have you mentioned it to him first?

PS...I mean no offense to anyone older but if he didn't look into it and express the desire first, well, he might not be prepared for "the work" involved.

Valid concern, but being an electrical engineer he is the kinda guy that loves weird gadgets simply because they are gadgets.

I don't really intend for this to be a replacement for his cigarettes, but an alternative to having to go into the garage every hour for a cigarette, or having to stand outside a restaurant in the freezing cold.

I don't think he knows such a thing exists, but if i can get him interested in the idea by trying it out to see that it actually works, he will spend a good three solid weeks of his retirement learning everything there is to know about the things...which is what i want.

Hi Joe, welcome to the forum.

It's a nice idea to get your dad an ecig. Just a word of warning, not everyone likes them, they take a bit of getting used to and looking after.

Have a look for tips on this thread - Non Smoker that wants to "Convert" his friends :)

I'd suggest to start off with a DSE901 mini kit with a spare atomiser and bottle of eliquid. Smaller ecigs are generally unsatisfactory. Esmoking does not taste like smoking, there is no comparable flavour so you'll just have to guess a flavour to suit your dad. Janty/Litecig RY4 or riskee yuice is a good one.

    For a supplier have a look here - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/for...suppliers.html

Tell us where in the world you are and we might be able to be more specific about good suppliers.

Get him a dse801 or dse901. You cant go wrong. If he is a heavy smoker and wants a big hit, get a cigar.

Puresmoker.com has a good deal going on right now...$50 for either one of those starter kits, plus 10 cartridges if you order now. And he's right there in Cali....you'll probably get it pretty quick!

    Good luck!

Not really in a position to make a recommendation yet, only a month into this with a DSE901b. It works for me, made a pack of 20 tobaccos last five days this week. I was 1 1/2 packs a day before. Lot of people here do seem to reckon they're a good starter though.

If he's Net savvy and gets into it (and can afford it!) he might well track down something that is just the thing for him after he's done some learning with a first one.

As you say he's an electrical engineer who loves gadgets - perhaps you can set him to work on designing us new improved models. By definition we're all open to new ideas and some of the members here are forever tinkering around with them. Search 'mods' (modifications) to see what I mean. Introduce him to the forum and he can become a member too if he gets into it.

Kate's right though, location (and budget) will affect where (and what) to buy. You can let us all see where you are if you edit your profile to put in your country/state or whatever. Oh yes - and, welcome! Seconded.

Smoking for 45 years & an electrical engineer...if matching someones profile to an ecig works...go for an SD..battery life is most important.
