Default The newest of the new: some basic questions

    Hello everyone,

After searching the threads on this site and others, I've finally decided to post my own question, as I can't seem to find exact answers. I hesitated for a while because it is SO embarrassing how little I understand! I know that the answers to these questions are more than likely somewhere out there, but please bear with me and help a super-noob out

    1. I'm currently using a starter kit which consists of two eGo-CE4s. Everything has been great for about a month, but now the one clearomizer (I think it's called?) produces almost no vape and the other one produces too much, and hurts my throat. Are clearomizers meant to be replaced (and if so, approximately how often), or can they be cleaned?

    2. I've been suggested a Vision Spinner (or eGo twist, but the forums here seem to prefer the Spinner), and possibly pair that with a mini vivi nova. Here I have a few questions:
    a) What is the main difference between the mini vivi nova and an eGo clearomizer?
    b) Does the vivi nova also have to be replaced / cleaned regularly?
    c) Can the vivi nova attach to my current eGo batteries?
    d) What would be your suggestion as to my "upgrade?"

Thank you SO much for any help. Looking forward to this new adventure

    Welcome!

The CE4's can be cleaned. The one you mentioned that produces no vape sounds like it can be, the other one is probably no good. If you have pure grain alcohol or strong cheap vodka, swish and soak the clogged one for 15 minutes or so, let it dry and see if that helps. Those kind of clearos are almost (to me) considered disposable since it doesn't come apart easily and you can't change the coils quickly.

Spinners, Twists and Winders are personal preference really.
The main difference between the mini vivi and the CE4 is that you can take it apart to clean it and change the coils very easily. Once you buy the mini vivi, you only need to buy coils (unless you make your own), instead of buying a whole new clearo.
Yes, it has a 510 connection. I don't have a mini vivi but you may want what is called a plinth or beauty ring for a smooth transition. Again, I don't have one, that's conjecture.
Sounds like a Spinner/twist/winder and a mini vivi would be very good as an upgrade. I use my twists everyday.

Hi and welcome to ECF and the world of vaping! To answer your questions:

    1) The CE4 is basically a disposable clearo - it can't be disassembled for cleaning and the atomizer isn't replaceable. You could try rinsing it out with hot water and/or soaking it in vodka to clean it (after removing the mouthpiece/drip tip), but it may or may not do any good.

    2) I have both the Twist and Spinner - I prefer the Spinner. The voltage numbers on the body of the battery are easier to read and the adjustment knob is easier to turn than the Twist.

    a) The Vivi Nova is a top coil device (the atomizer and wicks are at the top of the clearo rather than at the bottom as with the Kanger Evod and other BCC (bottom coil clearomizer) devices). Top coil devices give a warmer vape because the coils are closer to your mouth, and you also have to tilt/swirl your device as the liquid level drops, to keep the wicks saturated with juice and avoid "dry hits". With bottom coil clearos, the wicks and atomizer are at the bottom of the tank, so gravity takes care of feeding them and there's no need to tilt/swirl to saturate the wicks.

    b) Any device will need to have the atomizer (coil/wicks) cleaned/replaced periodically. They will all clog up and/or burn out at some point.

    c) Yes, the Vivi Nova will attach to your eGo batteries. The eGo has both 510 and eGo threading, so it will take almost any clearo/carto/tank device you can imagine.

    d) One good (and frequent) recommendation is the Kanger Evod. They don't hold a ton of juice, but they're solid devices which can easily be disassembled and cleaned. The replacement heads are cheap and easy to install, and later on down the line you can (if you wish) learn to rebuild the wicks/coils for pennies. Their form factor also works very nicely with the eGo batteries.

For reference, a Vivi Nova Mini on an eGo with/without cone/beauty ring:

(The ring is from a Protank but you can get one that's straight to fit better with the Nova, also tightens the draw a fair amount, if you do/do not like that.)

ETA: If anyone is wondering about the cloudy color on the Nova, I've got a potential tank-cracker in it to test for durability, yes it's etching the plastic. Normally the tank is crystal clear, and yes the heads are replaceable but I've switched to BCCs exclusively.

Hello and welcome to the ECF . I would also recommend the evod for the same reasons as Cactus Breath. But I do prefer the spinners over the twists because they're easier to read the adjustment markings on them . But I would also recommend the ego mega vv 2 because of the passthrough feature it allows you to vape while charging it. Fastech.com has a version of it in the 18 dollar range .

Seems to me that you have batteries for now (although a few backups are in order)....you just need to sort out your clearo issues. You could certainly get a Vivi Nova, or more CE4s, while you find what's best for you. There are a whole host of things to try, and everyone will like something different.

The CE4s can be cleaned and dry burned but they will fail at some point as they are somewhat disposable. You can stick with them (just order more) or start exploring all of the options...or both. During my 1 year of vaping, I've tried to order something new every month or two, just to find what's right for me.

CE4's were designed to be disposeable...usually after 3-4 weeks....U can buy them for $1.27 at $12.75 CE4 1.6mL Electronic Cigarettes Round Mouth Atomizer (10-Pack) at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping which is cheaper than new coils for rebuildable clearomizers..

Some good advice here. Please do not replace your Egos with a variable voltage device until you know for sure why you may need or want it.

    Hello again everyone!

Just wanted to say thanks again for the advice, I boiled some water and immersed the cartomizers and mouthpieces and both are cleared up and working wonderfully. Easy as pie!
