Default Leakage at connection between atomizer & batt

I've only been vaping about 2 weeks now, using Joye 510. Successfully weaned off of analogs, but experiencing an annoying problem. Every time I drip 2-3 drops or fill a cart (not overfilled, no "pooling") I get juice leaking out of the 4 airholes at the brass ring connecting the atomizer and battery. Didn't notice this problem at first, but now consistently happens when I drip or use a full cart. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

What cart filler are you using? Any cart mod?

Using the original filler that came with the cart. Pulled it out and rinsed it, blotted w/paper towel then dryed. Tried the straw mod in a couple of the carts but that didn't help...

That usually means the atomizer has too much juice in it. My atomizer (I have a 510 too) can usually hold 3 drops if its dry, 4 drops and I get leakage. I don't use carts at this point, pretty much just direct drip on the atomizer.

There might be a defect with your atomizer, do you have a spare that you can try and see if you're still having the problem?

Yes, I have a spare atomizer and battery, but they leak as well. On another side note, the spare atomizer had a "thread" hanging out of the bridge that I pulled out (larger diameter than a stray fiber from the original cart filler) and seems to dry out rather quickly, even when I drip. Is this a part of the atomizer intended to hold juice? Also, when you direct drip, do you use a dry or empty cart or just leave off the cart altogether and vape directly from the atomizer?

For dripping I use an empty cart as a mouthpiece, and just drip 2 drops into my 510's atty at a time. While I can get away with 3 at times (if its dry or the juice is thick etc) I find that risking a leak is more trouble to clean up than dripping 2 drops at a time more often.

Something to keep in mind tho, not all drops from all bottles are the same size, so if you find 4 drops leaks, try 3, if 3 leaks sometimes, either risk it for more vapes between drips or just use 2 (posted this for those that use 4 or more drops, the type of atty also affects this, some can take 6+ but not mine)

My atty's only have 2 air holes here, I expect you have a REALLY light drag with the 4 hole type there. As your stock carts seem to be leaking when you refill them, I would suggest getting some stuff to replace that with. If the filler is not tight enough it will leak just from gravity (thinner juices will be most prone to this)

As filling a cart with fluval or polyfill or the tea bag matierial or the blue fish tank filter pads is not an exact science it will require some trial and error to get the right ammount of filler in, while still letting enough fluid wick into the atty to get a good vape. And as I mentioned the thickness/thiness of your juice will affect this also. (Also some stock carts will have less filler than others and be more prone to leaks, not an exact science to be sure!)

I would suggest experimenting with plain PG (THIN juice) and or VG (THICK juice) and different filler types/ammounts to find what works out best for you. This way you wont waste expensive juice while finding the right ammount / type of filler that works best for whatever your vaping.

The best stress test I found is to fill a cart, pop it on the atty and draw on it as hard as you can a few times as that is most often when one will leak for me if the filler is not tightly packed enough in the cart, or is too pourous etc.

As far as the atty itself goes, when you look into it you see the raised bridge, that part is intended to make contact with the filler in a cart and wick juice from the cart, past the bridge and deeper into the atty where it is then heated to make the vapor.

Hope this clears that bit up for you

There was another thread.. couldn't find it if I tried (lol).. anyway, it said don't pull out that little thread. It's supposed to be there.
Was it doing this BEFORE you pulled the thread out?

Thanks much for the info NightShadow. I guess it will take some experimenting with to figure out what works best. I'll try the empty cart and 2 drops directly on the atomizer first and see what happens. I kinda like the idea of primarily dripping and not having to mess with refilling the carts anyhow. I'm only a light vaper (5-6x per day) so it's not that much of a hassle to just drip when I feel the urge. Might have to look into the PTB or other filler material for refilling carts. What have you found works best in the 510 carts?

Debra, to answer your question, it is leaking on both attys. But based on the performance of my spare that I pulled the thread from, I'm guessing that I've made a mistake and funked that one up. Time to order another couple of spare attys. At least I still have one that works normally, save the leakage problem...

Yeah, I remember this thread too as it led to me tearing up an atty while experimenting.

From what I remember, pulling this thread out was bad and not recommended.

I find that if I take the filler out to clean it and am rough with it, enough to change its shape and consistency, I too leak. I think keeping the filler in tact as much as possible retains its ability to absorb, and hence, detract leakage. But that's my 2 cents.
