If you're using 50/50:
(50% of 36) + (50% of x) = 24
18 + (50% of x) = 24
18 + 6 = 24 so x has to be 12 OR
(1/2 of 36) + (1/2 of x) = 24
18 + 6 = 24 so x has to be 12
Or a just as easy method: What do I have to add to 36, then divide in half to get 24? Then just plug in some numbers. 36 + 12 = 48, divided in half = 24. 12mg is your answer.

How bout a solution that's easy, and saves money?
Take the 36mg... mix 2 parts with 1 part pure PG. Or in equation form:
2/3 36mg + 1/3 PG = 1 24mg.
