I have a feeling that there's a trading law in the UK that says a customer can change their mind for a refund within seven days of the sale. Maybe I imagined it but it might be worth asking the Citizens Advice Bureau or Trading Standards or something.

The distance selling regulations mean that you have a legal 7 day "cooling off" period for mail ordered goods. Consumer Direct - Returning or cancelling orders
