The average cost?
Hello,
My hubby and I have ordered in a starter kit from Janty plus an extra battery and some cartridges. It should be in next week.
We've been reading reviews and watching tutorials and such, and there seems to be a lot of variation in consumption.
The main reason we're trying it is cost. Currently we spend more than 200 Canadian dollars per month on our smoking habit. Based on the information we've found on e-cigs, we could buy juice or cartridge refills to support our current nicotene consumption for about 20-30 dollars a month. Also, it looks like the atomizers need replacement once a month. But I'm also wondering about the lifespan of the rechargable batteries and other regular costs we'll face.
It also sounds like careful cleaning can extend the life of the atomizers, but Its unclear what the maximum life span could be.
I'd like to hear from people who have been using e-cigs for at least a few months, the kind of mandatory costs they are seeing, if they factor out impulse buys like accessories and such.
How much does this habit actually cost you?

I would be interested in people's responses too. I have spent a lot in the last month, but my goal was to be well stocked to get off of analog cigarettes permanently. I have spent about $300 US on hardware for me, my wife, and my best freind. I also have spent about $150 US on assorted liquids.
I don't really have a consumption rate as of yet since I am fairly new to this. I do have 2 spare atomizers, about 220ml of assorted liquids, and USB passthrough batteries. My hope is to make it well into atleast march before I need to place another order. If I make it until May, I will be thrilled.

What were your smoking abits before you switched?

I used to smoke over 2 packs a day at a monthly cost of about $250. It's only been a month roughly since I switched to e-cigs. 4 e-cigs (2 kits) ran about $125. Since then I bought 5 more atomizers, 6 - 30ml bottles of liquid and assorted supplies. The first month it cost me about $280.
I expect to go through 4 bottles of liquid and 2 - 3 atomizers a month. I did myself a favor and bought a USB pass thru to save batteries - A good investment at $25.
Monthly costs should be about $120 - $150 if I'm careful.
I learned a lot by reading the forums. Good luck to both of you!

Ah, sorry korvet...you beat me to the post button.
Very useful indeed. Thank-you.
Looks like we might have underestimated how regularily we'd have to be buying atomizers and such...but still cheaper. Thanks.

The products you ordered have a good warranty so you should be all set other than having to ship stuff back if it breaks down: I understand they have good customer service. I was formerly using the 901 and really have pretty much been using the same atomizer since November with no problems. I know some of it is luck but once you get to know what your doing. I guess really I switched between 2 atomizers but really used the same one, that is still working, all that time. Batteries are another issue but they are not that expensive. I never boiled the atomizer or anything but I do see the value in doing that if you are careful.
This forum is a good resource and you have a decent product on the way, you should be all set. Juice is another matter... so many choices. I purchased a Johnson Creek sampler, settled on a couple of flavors and purchased larger bottles of those flavors. I have been watching and Johnson Creek has had a couple of sales and I stocked up. Good Luck!

I am not an experienced Ecig person yet, it has been 3 weeks and this is what I have found so far. If it doesn't save you a dime it is still worth it because when you go out in public you don't have to worry about the smell all over you, nasty ash trays, etc. I believe that as you learn how to vape you will begin to know how to save money. I promise you this, use an ecig ONLY for 2 days and then light up a regular cigerette and you will be disgusted at the taste and smell. I am loving it so far and so will you.

Hi quimby, if you check underneath my quit smoking banner i've been doing a running total of exactly what i've spent on ecigs to date. I've been using ecigs since xmas eve. I didn't quit smoking until 4 days after i got my ecig so the money saved could be 4 packs higher.
I was a 25 - 30 a day smoker depending on if i was in the office or out on the road. I'm using a DSE901 and would estimate i'm using around 2 - 3 ml of High nic juice a day. I could probably use less but i'm enjoying vaping so WTH.
In my first month i have had one atomizer and one batterygo bad. I bought 2 atomizers and had the one bad atmoizer replaced under warranty. I still have two batteries, one good and one not so good. I'm looking at getting a USB battery soon so i don't have to keep recharging batteries at work.
I did make myself a usb battery from the salvaged parts of the bad battery. I only use that if i don't have a battery charged since it seems to overheat the atomizers a little. Guess the circuit needs a resistor but that's another topic.
From what i've read the Janty is a more reliable ecig and something i might look at in a few months.
The link below is to thesmokelessshop.com. Katy has done some costings for the average esmoker. I think it a fair example.

Thank you!
Thank you everyone for your feedback! I didn't expect so much so soon!
It sounds like even in a worst case scenario of having to replace things frequently, the cost will still be below what we spend now.
Now I just hope that we really find it a satisfying substitute... And you're right talbrecht, I can't wait for all those health benefits. Right now, I wheeze and cough my way through every workout at the gym, and I can really really smell the smoke on my clothes afterwards. It's made me wonder how many other people are just politely not mentioning the stink.
Any recommendations for Canadian liquid suppliers?
The two companies we'll be ordering our e-cigs from are Janty and puresmoker... but the shipping cost for out of country orders is a bit prohibitive. I'd like to find a good supplier for liquid closer to home.
