Default Hello all...new & confused member here

    Hi all....33 M from Jersey

I've been looking into electronic ciggarettes as a smoking alternative/possible quitting step

Through researching on the web before running into this site, all I saw were adds and sites about Smoke51 and NJoy

I came here in the hopes of narrowing down which one is better, and instead I find there's so many other brand out there

Very confused here and would like a little guidance as to what is a good brand of these to get

Thanks for reading, I also haven't read the forum extensively yet, so maybe my questions can be answered by doing that as well

    Well...thanks....ciao

    DC

Hi DC, welcome to the forum.

The reviews are here - Electronic Cigarette Reviews - e-cigarette-forum.com • The place for electronic cigarette reviews, news and chat

At the moment the Evo, M401, DSE901 and classic/penstyle all seem popular.

This is the best place for a newbie to start on the forum - Helpful links and videos for a new user.

Hi DC. I am an earlier model DC and was also confused when I first started. I nearly jumped on an Njoy because their site looked well and at them time they were being recommended and advertised on this site. but don't waste your money. Njoys are for offliners who do no research.

All the brands use models from a few select factories in China. the factories use different model numbers and I think the nJoy penstyle is an RN4072. I prefer this atomizer to an DSE801 which is used by others. Smoke51 sell Loong Totem products and in my experience LT's aside from being expensive are not so good. The batteries and the carts do not last as advertised.

The carts lasted me ~60 puffs but others have said that some last a whole day so it might be fair to say that what you get is a mixed bag when you buy that product but perhaps they have improved quality control. the Smoke51 product uses a cartridge with an atomizer built in to every one. they are disposable, a desirable concept.

non-disposable models which is the majority of devices come with 1-2 atomizers (depending on the kit) which could last anywhere from one week to 3 months depending on many factors including largely pure bum-luck. a lot of people consider all atomizers disposable objects as they all deteriorate significantly though some methods have been devised to clean them to some extent like steaming or boiling them.

There are so many suppliers now and I dont want to advertise for anyone in particular but do have a good snoop around before you make a purchase. A lot of people are using usb passthroughs coupled with an external usb battery pack and their favourite atomizer. This seems like a good cheap solution if you get tired of always charging the batts and don't care about it not looking like a ciggie.

Also consider a supplier's warranty when you make a purchase.

Hi all....I'm still having mass confusion over here...fist off thank you very much for the prompt responses and beginner links...I have read them all

I'm still confused on a few things

    -E-juice versus pre-filled cartridges

-type of E-juice to get (hopefully something that tastes close to the real thing)....I've read that some brand or type called "hilton" is supposed to be good

-type of e-cigg to start with...I keep reading DSE901 is the best to start with but why? it seems people say its good to start with but then upgrade to something else...do all DSE 901s have that wierd plastic mini cigar type tip on it?

-Nicotine addiction...it seems alot of these juices, cartridges are high in nicotine...I'm trying to figure out the level closest or slightly lower to what I'm currently smoking, which is Winston light 100s (1.0 mg nicotine), about 10-15 per day

so basically I'm still very much confused...any more assistance would be greatly apprecated...Thanks

Eliquid is better than prefilled cartridges because it's cheaper and generally nicer. It comes in different strengths and you can change the strength by diluting or remixing.

If you smoke 10-15mg of nicotine a day there are a couple of options.

You could spread your 15mg evenly throughout the day and vape 2ml (this is average) of 7mg eliquid. This will give you a steady dose but you might still get cravings because it's not like smoking where you get a spike and a buzz.

The other thing you could do is vape zero most of the time but have up to 1ml of 11 or 18mg eliquid a couple of drops at a time when you get cravings. With this method you don't build tolerance and the buzz is better but you might not find the zero eliquid satisfying.

    -E-juice versus pre-filled cartridges
Cartidges are easier and cleaner to use, just buy them and pop in as needed. However depending on how much you smoke you mind find it a bit costly to keep getting carts just like you kept buying cigs.

A cart is just a little filter containing juice, inside a mouthpiece. So you can add juice yourself when your cart is running dry, or completely you can refill when it's empty. Or you can buy carts with no juice at all (blanks) and add the juice yourself. Plus other options.

    -type of E-juice to get
Completely depends on what you smoke, and even then, folks have different tastes. The most tobacco-like are generally regular, marlboro, camel, virginia, hilton, 555, tobacco, french pipe.

-type of e-cigg to start with...I keep reading DSE901 is the best to start with but why? it seems people say its good to start with but then upgrade to something else...do all DSE 901s have that wierd plastic mini cigar type tip on it?
The 901 is easy to find, many sellers, reasonable size, resembles long cigarette, lightweight, good vapor. Just a nice all-around. I wouldn't say we all upgrade to something else, there are different needs for different uses. Penstyles are nice if you want batteries and carts to last longer. Supermini's are nice if you want to blend in with cig-duplicate. Or anything cheap for bar-hopping, folks worry about losing them. You can feel good about starting with a 901, then just keeping learning more if you decide to stick with them. The "cigar-type tip" - do you mean the flattish one rather than a round one? Some have the round ones. The seller can tell you which they have. Also carts for 901 come in both round tip and flat tip. I prefer the flattish tip myself.

-Nicotine addiction...it seems alot of these juices, cartridges are high in nicotine...I'm trying to figure out the level closest or slightly lower to what I'm currently smoking, which is Winston light 100s (1.0 mg nicotine), about 10-15 per day
I'd get low and medium to start with, 6-12mg nicotine range, some of each, you'll figure out what is best for you. And yeah get some zeros too, as Kate said.

Hi ..I started out with the dse901s from Puresmoker...he is a great supplier...then I got a few pens from PureSmoker..they have a nicer hit and the batteries last longer...being a newby myself I bought 6 dse01s...and 3 pen styles...and a lot of extra atomizers...I don't do anything special with my atomizers..I just blow them out when I am done and let them drain on paper towel over night...(hence the extra ones)..i don't drip..I just use carts and refill them when the vapor starts getting low...I love the juice from PURESMOKER,...I got the Marb medium...Yummy,,,I love the way it smells and tastes...good stuff...hope i could help....

That right there is why I'm getting frustrated with all the Njoy bashing around here. You say don't waste your money on an Njoy, at the same time noting that what they sell is the model you prefer, and THEN add consider the warranty, which for Njoy is ONE YEAR as compared to most of the forum-popular sellers 14-30 days.

Folks who are having problems with Njoy warranty service, they can bash away for that with good reason. But otherwise, as you show in your own words, the general bash-away-at-Njoy mantra simply doesn't hold water.

Do you see any liquid on NJoy's site? No. Do you see the price of cartridges on NJoy's site? Exhorbitantly high. Do you see the estimate of how long a cart should last on NJoy's site? Ridiculously overstated. Do you see any hint at all on NJoy's site that their customers could save loads of dollars buying liquid to refill their carts? No. They deliberately set out to keep their customers in ignorance about that, wanting them to keep buying their overpriced carts, so that's the primary reason why they are on my bash-list.
