Default Lost and Confused

I have smoked for 20 years. I really want to stop. I am confused and lost! I have no idea what web site to go to to purchase e-cigarettes and I have no clue what kind to purchase. Any help would be great

Super minis are the least favoured devices, battery and cartridge life is not good with them. Minis (510/Janty Dura/DSE901/M401/Pilot) are popular. Penstyle/classics are the workhorses and good for heavy use. Mini pipes are getting good reviews and ecigars have some fans. The best thing to do is check out reviews and get an idea of what you want, it's all very subjective. While you're looking at reviews you'll come across recommendations for traders. Try to buy from a forum supplier if you can, they tend to look after us best. There are a lot of US suppliers but I don't know who has stock at the moment.

Just to be clear, these devices are not intended to be used as part of a smoking cessation program. That said, I tried e-cigs and have been tobacco free for 14 days. That is a freaking miracle as I have never been without an analog cig for over 30 years. I am also a new e-cig smoker so here is what I have to say...

I was a heavy smoker and found the pen-style e-cig to be the best device. Many folks sell them; many are vendors here on this fourm. They are longer than analog cigs and do not look like cigs. The cartridges hold a fair amount of smoking liquid. My recommendation is to get a pen-style starter kit from Puresmoker.com when they re-open their storefront on or around March 18 (my birthday, for those interested). I think the atomizers they sell are outstanding so the pen-style kits must also be outstanding.

There is a learning curve. Most folks figure out pretty quickly that buying pre-filled cartridges costs way too much money. If you browse though the forum there are many topics on refilling cartridges and topping off cartridge with your own e-liquid (available from forum venodrs). You will end up investing in smoking juices, so take that into consideration for the budget.

Alternative sources of power are also important. Batteries last a couple of hours if you vape heavily. If you work at a computer, a USB pass-though device is a godsend. You can smoke your e-cig powered by your PC or laptop and save your batteries for when you are out and about.

These devicesw are far from reliable so most people buy extra batteries and atomizers. If you plan to use the device(s) at home and work, an extra battery charger or USB-Pass-Through might be a good purchase.

Feel free to PM me if you continue to be confused. I am only into this for a month and I am seeing some huge benefits.

Hi

Welcome to a great site. All the links Kate supplied are full of very usefull information. As a new member I hit all of those and then some. It helped me understand the basics of Ecigs, and gave me an idea of what to expect, should I decide to give vaping a try.

As for actually ordering, there are many great suppliers out there. I will mention two of them. I have done business with both, and feel they are fair & honest. In no particular order: Vaporguys... You can call Kurt and he will talk with you at length about a best choice for you as a newbie, yep, a real live person to talk to. A Better Smoke Dot Com.......
I found this site to have the best information on how to use an ecig, how to quit smoking analogs while using an ecig, and just overall a great informational site. Their products are top notch as well.

Hope that helps. Good luck

Welcome Peach!

You struck gold with your post since Kate has already replied. She knows her s**t and is always willing to help.

I'm also in the midwest (Minneapolis). I bought an NPro locally because I was impatient. It's not a bad device, but there are better out there.

I know this forum seems overwhelming at first, but you'll get used to it. I would suggest paying attention to the "Todays Posts" link, its a great way to get to know everyone, and there is a constant stream of n00b questions that will undoubtedly help you out.

Here are the basics that I've picked up over the past month:

1. You will see "disposables" marketed more than what most people use. Stay away from them unless you are willing to pay a lot for convenience.

2. The pen-styles, as Kate said, seem to be the workhorses.

3. You'll need to learn about buying juice and refilling your cartridges, its not that hard. There are a few reputable names on this board. Totally Wicked is held in high regard, but there are others as well (Totally Wicked started in the UK but they now have a US office, search for totally wicked usa and you should find it).

4. Look at the review videos. They are very helpful.

5. Check out thesmokelessshop.com. She has a stellar reputation and probably the best starter kit out there at the moment. There are reviews here regarding suppliers, so take the time to read those threads. There are a handful that are held in high regard.

6. You will want to make sure that you get two atomizers. They are flaky devices. Batteries also vary, so read up.

7. PM me if you have any questions! I'm no expert, for sure, but I'm very willing to share my experience and the knowledge I've gained on this board.

Good luck!
