Default New to e-cigs, and it destroys my throat

Hey all, I'm new to this and I am using these to slowly get off cigs and nicotine forever. I've found this site very useful to read. Against all recommendations, my only e-cig is a e-health one from DealExtreme. I don't mind the taste, and when I drag with my mouth (not my lungs) it gives great vapor. Can't say the same while I am actually puffing it.

The thing I do mind is that whenever I take a puff, the hit destroys my throat. It's like I'm inhaling hot air. I am trying to inhale as slowly as possible (as slowly as the cig will allow before not activating at all) but it is still burning, It burns my mouth and tongue if I let it get in the way too. I'm not even sure if it really is "burning" or something else, but it stings pretty bad. I was wondering if this was normal? I'd like to hear new users' experiences about this.

    Things I have done:
-Soaked atomizer in 91% isopropyl alcohol for a few minutes, and then took it out and dried it for half an hour. Started using it shortly after (yeah I was impatient, I haven't smoked in 2 weeks)

-Used a q-tip to clean around the threads and atomizer. Some cotton threads got stuck on the heating coil... I can't seem to remove them. They should all be burned off by now so I don't see why the throat hit is so bad.

-Fully charged it until the light turned off.

I'm glad that I will always have an alternative to cigs now, but it hurts! Looking forward to hearing from you guys. Thanks!

You might have a PG(propylene glycol) liquid and I found that when i used that, it hurt my throat, but i switched to VG (vegetable glycerine) and it's sooooo much better! I got mine from Johnson's Creek.

These are possibly the reason why your throat feels like it's burning, that or you're vaping your cartridges dry.

Thanks for the help, my atomizer actually just stopped working altogether. But it's ok I guess... I got a few good puffs out of it before it died... I should be good for another 2 weeks while I ask DX to send me another atomizer? lol

The liquid in Dealextreme Health devices is notoriously bad, get some eliquid and drip directly onto the atomiser for best results with that one.

Apparently the propylene glycol lines the mucus membrane in your throat and mouth and draws moisture to itself and away from the tissue so you get dried out. Wash it away regularly and especially before going to bed with a drink. Some people also find that sucking sweets while vaping helps to avoid sore throats.

I found, too, that my first couple of days with the vapor I had to kind of ease into it. I had to take "baby steps."

So this was my beginning routine when I first started to vape:

-My first couple of drags off the thing were puffing only - no inhaling.

-Once I felt ready to inhale - I took a drag into my mouth, blew about half out and inhaled the remains (TINY inhalations-like when I first started smoking and didn't want to be *uncool* and cough!)

-A couple of these tiny inhalations, and my throat was ok, I'd adjusted for the rest of the vaping session.....

This was my routine for the first week or so of vaping... I did not smoke any analogs during this time (I liked the vape better...)

Now I'm completely adjusted, I don't have to take baby steps anymore, I just go with the flow...

Oh I so wish I could follow all the great advice in here right now... I'll be back when my atomizer gets repaired by DX. I was hoping that these last 10 cartridges would be my last 10 "packs" of nicotine overall, but if I'd like a small sample of (cheap) juice, what should I get? I don't want too much though, because then I'd never get off of this :P Glad to see I should be OK after a bit of vaping.

P.S. You guys should have seen me desperately trying to get my broken atomizer to work last night. A few hours and nothing. It was pretty priceless.
