DROP TEST - OK first major mishap with the Darwin. I was late getting to the airport in Helsinki today and after a three hour drive I jump out of the rental and the Darwin was in my lap. Sort of like the slow motion thing as I watched it fly and tumble before hitting the ground. It was in the opened postion and hit hard arm first. Well anyone worried about the brass connector can rest easy since this think took a brutal hit and was not phased in the least. The Ikev V2 drip carto however met its maker and recieved a proper burial in a snowbank. It hit hard enough to cleanly fracture the threaded portion off at the carto body. So the people posting in other threads that the arm is flimsy can KMA.

I just about crapped my pants thinking I had just killed my Darwin LOL. I immediately put another atty (a known good atty), and checked it. Everything was fine. Thinking it may have just been a fluke, I put that other atty back on it. And again, the screen went blank. Not one to tempt fate, I immediately thru that atty in the trash.

Was that screen blanking out a protection against a shorted atty?
I had that happen to me also and I almost freaked. What I did those was remove the 510-510 adapter applied the atty directly to the Darwin and it worked. Then I tried a different 510-510 adaptor from the one I was using then put the atty on and it worked. So first try removing your 510-510 or using another 510-510 adaptor before throwing away your atty. It worked for me.

Hey L2S, good to see you have broken radio silence, since I secretly believe that you may work for that agency that starts with a C and ends with an A....I really don't know why working for Casaa should be such a secret...lol! Anyway, good to hear your drop-test results were favorable!

Thought I was screwed when it hit that hard and all the running was for nothing since the plane had a flat tire and we got delayed for 2 hours anyway. Figured other Darwin owners would sleep a little easier knowing it can take a serious licking and keep on vaping. I still have not had the guts to whip it out on the pane but the P-10 is working great for that. Last gulp of a nice Belgian beer (2 La Trappe triples) sleeping pill and time for lights out. Back in the Cuse or still in a hotel?????

I leave Friday a.m. which is messed up and I kick myself for committing to it, but hard to turn away clients, even on weekends. Don't feel bad, I did the exact same thing with my
Darwin, except it didn't happen in Helsinki! My arm was closed though and not even a mark!

I had a similar issue with my atty today, when I actually took my map off. The atty either felt too dry or surged, just could not seem to drip right on it. After messing with it for awhile and a few curse words later, I took off the 510-510 and worked as it should. Unfortunately, have mo other 510-510, but ya can bet it will be in my next order!

Good to hear of your Darwins survival, L2s! And will let me rest easier as I don't have another mod that even comes close to it. Hope your trip, business trip that is, went well.

We will toast one to you, CG!

krisb, sometimes the center pin of the ce2 gets pushed inward and doesn't make contact in every instance. So maybe it made contact in the Darwin connector but not in the 510/510? The CE2 center pin is movable by pushing downward on the ceramic cup. Maybe do that and then try your adapter one more time and see if it works?

I have an adapter which shorts out my darwin and causes it to shut down. Problem is the outer threaded part of the adapter is too thick and touches the darwin center pin thus shorting out. All other adapters I have work fine.

CG, wasn't a ce2, just a plain ol boge atty. No big deal, I don't mind using it without the adapter. I'm careful with the Darwin threads but not overly paranoid. The center pin of my adapter is off a bit so when I screw it in the two pieces of the adapter are slightly askew from each other.

BTW, got the package...woo-hoo, can't wait to use it! TY!!

KrisB- mine will screw in odd like that unless I take my time, and adjust the carto as I'm screwing it on. It seems the threads of the carto's are not "exactly" the same pitch as the threads of the adaptor. So as I screw it in, I sorta pull it away from the adaptor- try it out, you'll get a feel for it. As you do this it lines up perfectly right at the very end of screwing it in. If I just screw it in without paying attention to it, it will end up skewed every time. But by paying attention to putting it in this way, it lines up perfectly. Takes some practice, but I can do it quick now.
