OK... how about a litmus strip?

They make liquid test solutions to test for chlorine in pools, perhaps there is the same type thing for alkaloids.

Degree of color determines the strength.

Now as far as a control substance... not so sure. Maybe by gosh and by golly method and produce best guess control strip.

getting tired so I would look into it farther,

    Lightbulb Ph tests?

A little over my head, but some of you Poindexter types might be able to make some useful sense from the following CDC link in measurements:

Determination of Nicotine, pH, and Moisture Content of Six U.S. Commercial Moist Snuff Products -- Florida, January-February 1999

As far as litmus type tests, I suppose you could use a 16 or 24 mg sample for a maximum strength control strip.

Sorry, just noticed TB said basically the same thing yesterday.

Thanks for the link, Gunny. It's a bit beyond us home cooks to use that ether method to extract nicotine. Besides, I remain concerned with any method that could possibly extract too much nicotine. I want some, but want the flavor even more.

I'll see if I can get hold of a litmus strip. Not sure nicotine's pH level will vary by its strength, however, so the strip might not tell us much.

By using this method I think you’ll destroy all the nicotine. According to a document :
“In these extraction experiments the extracts must be processed as soon as possible. Bacterial degradation of the nicotine begins almost immediately as evidenced by mold formation and noticeable frothing within 24 hours. This degradation was more pronounced in the flue cured extracts, possibly due to sugar fermentation”
(Dr. Jack Reid., Investigations Into the Extraction of Nicotine From Tobacco) .

This means that the week you wait plus the extra sugar from the apple will certainly destroy it.

Hi All I am new to this forum. I have also been thinking about making e-juice but i see a big problem with getting any decent amount of nicotine. I read somewhere that 1ML of e-juice is = 10 cigarettes. Now a snus mini pouch of tobacco gives about the same satisfaction as one cigarette. Now Imagine for a second trying to mix the tobacco from 10 little snus pouches with 1ML of liquid it would simply absorb it and there would be no liquid.
The second problem I see and I'll quote it direct from wikipedia "As shown by the physical data, free base nicotine will burn at a temperature below its boiling point, and its vapors will combust at 308K (35°C or 95°F) in air despite a low vapor pressure" Does this not mean if you boil tobacco in water you are going to destroy most of the nicotine in in?

Default Golden Virginia & PG soak

I decided to make my own e-juice but wanted to keep things real simple.

9 days ago i stuffed a small 25ml glass jar with Golden Virginia hand rolling tobacco and then filled the jar with propylene glycol and just let it soak at room temperature.
On day 9 i couldn't resist giving it a trial.
I filtered the mix by filling up a wine makers filter paper and squeezing by gloved hand the liquor into another jar.

The resulting mix was a little cloudy but could be filtered more i suppose.
I then added a little bit of Jack Daniels' just to make the mix more vapeable.
Then using a blank DSE901 cart i filled it to the top and attached it to my DSE901 USB passthrough.
At first i was a little unsure of the taste i can only describe it as a kind of roasted smoke/pipe tobacco taste.(but it does grow on you)
The first thing i noticed was that the tobacco taste was definitely there and it lingers and coats the mouth and taste buds which for me simulates a real cigarette.
Nicotine content has got to be there because this is all i have vaped since i got up this morning and for the last 4 hours i have not needed my other e-juice.
Atomizer cleaning is going to needed on a daily basis though because a brown residue builds up very quickly.

I planted me some tobacco and I wil try your method. I was going to use a mini crock pot to simmer down water with tobacco in it.

I use 99% pure acholol to clean my attys. I don't lose one very often. I just soak for several hours dry off, and shake then blow out and let sit for a while.

.... Are you any relation to anyone in the fairy tales? I ask because now I see how the Evil Queen got the apple she used on Snow White.

    Did you say
    "Mirror, Mirror, gleaming and bold,
What's the most nicotine this apple can hold?"
