Yep I think there's a fine line to how far down you concentrate the resulting fluid to get a balance of flavor & nicotine content. I bought 22 pounds of Farmers Gold RYO additive free just before the big tax increase, emergency supply in case I have to do some moonshining..errr.. eJuiceshining, I'd grow my own tobacco plants but they'd probably burst into flames in this desert heat, heheh

Hi GreySaber, I read a web article a week ago (can't find the link right now) that said no NRT's (gum, patch, losenge, eJuice, etc.) even uses pure nicotine in their products. They all use nicotine derivatives with long scientific names, and eJuice manufacturers use ' food grade ' nicotine, not pure nic. It gave a source for the types that the gum, patches, & losenges use, but not for the food grade that's in eJuice.
Maybe that's one reason why I still crave the Real Thing every once in a while even though I would rather vape....and why there's a 95% failure rate for those people trying to quit altogether with gum & patches, etc.

I understand the mention of craving the "real" thing on occasion. I've been vaping now for a bit over two months. After smoking analogs for 15 years...I suddenly became a purist and wanted to know exactly WHAT was in my e-liquid. Conveniently, my husband is a chemist and had access to pharm grade 99% (something like that) pure nicotine. It makes a difference. Initially I sampled juice from all of the well known suppliers. While the various flavors and vapor were excellent, it didn't cut my craving for a "real" smoke. I was only able to give up analogs completely after he began making my e-juice with the pure nicotine. It is a little freaky when he gloves up and turns our kitchen into a lab...but I KNOW what I'm vaping. Now, I have absolutely no craving for a tobacco cigarette; however, if all of my batteries die at once...I turn into a mad woman.

    Default Wikipedia is your friend

What I don't get is this: One analog cig yields 1mg of nicotine. One e-cig with (24mg/ml) juice would contain about 6 drops (let's say about 1ml) so ~ 20mg of nicotine. How come I can finish the whole cartridge at one take and not feel a thing? Isn't it supposed to be equivalent to smoking a whole pack of cigarettes?

"Nicotine is an alkaloid found in the nightshade family of plants (Solanaceae) which constitutes approximately 0.6–3.0% of dry weight of tobacco ..."

"In low concentrations (an average cigarette yields about 1 mg of absorbed nicotine), the substance acts as a stimulant ..."

I don't get it either. What's more, I get a BETTER throat hit from my low nicotine Rum flavor juice... which is a pretty danged good throat hit, (it's 11mg) then I do from my coconut flavor E-juice, which is 24 mg! It's got more then twice the MG then the rum flavor, but most of the time, no hit at all.

So I'm going to order more rum flavor... I think.

I suspect throat hit actually has very little to do with nicotine. Hopefully someone else will pipe up, since I'm inexperinced.

    Default Thoat hit vs nicotine

Yeah, i suspect throat hit might be a different beast. For example, mint would give you a stronger throat hit. I came to the conclusion that e-cigs are low on nicotine from the following observations:

    - cravings for real cigs
    - trouble sleeping (when i tried quitting smoking, i would wake up earlier the first couple of days and my sleep would be erratic)
    - other small clues, like anxiousness or trouble concentrating.

I'm really hoping there is a way to deliver me the same amount of nicotine through e-cigs. Any suggestions?

Default some more info on the nicotine

Did some more digging, found this post by a person attending the annual conference of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco. Here's the excerpt:

"...He showed me a preliminary report on the e-cigarette which was being presented at the conference. Full details of the study will be presented in a formal publication sometime in the future, but for right now the main conclusion is that although the e-cigarette CONTAINS a reasonable amount of nicotine it actually DELIVERS very little nicotine to the user, and certainly much much less that can be obtained from smoking. To my mind this relegates the status of this product to that of a very nice and cleverly designed theatre prop, and unfortunately not a product that is likely to be highly effective in helping smokers to quit smoking..."

So, IMHO, the whole 24 or 36 mg business has nothing to do with how much nicotine you are actually getting.

One the side note, anyone tried rubbing the e-liquid onto your gums?
