Default Pure nicotine? Where does the nicotine come from?

I tried asking this in DIY, but got no replies.

I've been looking into the idea of getting bulk E-juice. So far as I understand, it's water, PG or VG, nicotine, and a flavoring.

Well, I could get PG or VG, water is easy, and even flavoring isn't that hard.

So what about nicotine? Where do the E-juice makers get their refined nicotine? Can I buy it by the brick? Are they buying massive amounts of tobacco and boiling it down? (Could I buy a bushel of tobacco and boil it down?)

Let's say it gets banned... We go out and buy PG and flavoring.... and a bushel of tobacco leaves?

Pure nicotine is highly toxic - a drop on your skin can kill you. Using pure nicotine to make your own eliquid is extremely dangerous.

Just drop this in is as I've not seen the nicotine content of juice expressed as a percentage before:

    A 24mg juice (x high) means 24mg/g (which is about 24mg/ml).

    That is, 24/1000 or 2.4% (w/w)

    Hence, a 10mg juice would be 1% nicotine (w/w) and a 5mg would be 0.5%.

Interisting! I've found some interisting threads on pure nicotine since posting this... And while I no longer desire PURE nicotine, I would like to see a source devolop which would be uninterrupable and I am still quite interisted to know the source of the nicotine in my E-cig.

    Default Glycerin & Alcohol

I brewed up a batch of tobacco yesterday with this method How To Prepare Glycerine Tincture , so far so good. I added in 3 shots of vodka to the glycerin too. This method is also described in another thread on this forum using snuff or snus.
I bought a large & small version of a hemp coffee & tea filter from here Cusp since they will last pretty much forever and not tear like paper coffee or tea filters, although paper could be used too. The tea filter has a much tighter weave than the coffee filter but the coffee filter works great in a Mr. Coffee machine for a quick tobacco brew with larger particles of tobacco.
The preferred method of making the tobacco particles as small as possible is to use an electric coffee bean / herb grinder. It makes the particles as fine as baby powder for increased surface area.

Well the brew from Mr. Coffee was pretty weak tasting, smells real good though. I tasted 1/2 teaspoon liquid on my tongue, bland tasting & no nicotine 'burn' like with eJuice or even 4mg nic gum.
The soaking method I started yesterday with glycerin & vodka tastes very sweet with a hint of vodka, I haven't vaped it yet. I need to let it soak 2 weeks in a 16 FL oz pickle relish jar, tobacco inside a reusable hemp tea bag so no particulates in the liquid. I will agitate it a couple of times a day...just turning the jar upside down & let it sit several hours.
I'd prefer to just buy commercial eJuice but I'm practicing for the day they ban it (hopefully never) and I'll have a good recipe. I only vape tobacco flavors, never the candy eJuices anyway. I think some of that tobacco absolute flavoring wouldn't hurt either.

Thanks Harry, The reason I asked is because I did an extraction that I found in DYI a while back and it was similar to what your doing...I placed American spirit tobacco in a glass jar with pure grain alcohol for 72 hours...Simmered it down to a oil on an electric hotplate and mixed it with pg and glycerine...Good throat hit and all but tasted like someone wiped their ass with an ashtray...I tried mixing in an assortment of lorann flavors but nothing really got the nasty taste out...I ended up using it for a slight tobacco flavor in a comercial liquid but could only use very little for flavor , otherwise it was nasty...Good luck with your experimenting and remember be VERY careful because it can be extremely dangerous...honestly after I did the math on the cost and all the agg, its cheaper just to buy the liquid and at least you have an idea of the strength...
