mark-up on e-juice
WOW! I just purchased 100 ml of nicotine, USP. That will make about 3 liters of 33 mg/ml juice or 6 liters of 16.5 mg/ml juice or 12 liters of 8.25 mg/ml juice. The cost works out to be less than $1.00 US for 50 mls of the low concentration. The mark-up sure is terrible for the commercial juice. That is about 28 times what I paid for it. Amazing.
I purchased the menthol crystals and dissolved it in a little vodka and added it to my commercial e-juice and the flavor is very good. Now I will wait until I get the pure nicotine and dilute it and add the menthol and I will be set forever (almost) as long as I can purchase e-cigs in the USA. Maybe the devices themselves will never be banned since we can personally vaporize any flavorings that we want.
Someone needs to send President Obama an e-cig since he only recently quit smoking. Then if they try to ban the e-cig, he can veto the bill :-)

What have you been smoking?
I don't know what you mean by "100 ml nicotine" but I'm pretty sure it's not possible to get those quantities of juice from that amount. How many mg is the nic juice?

You can in fact purchase Nicotine, USP. Now...I will wait to tell you where until it arrives. I did have to pay a Hazardous Materials Charge of a little over $50 but I included that in my cost calculations above.
The strength is 100% pure nicotine which is an oily liquid. The density of nicotine is approximately 1000 mg/ml. So, add 3.3 ml of nicotine to 96.7 ml of PG will give a 33 mg/ml solution of nicotine. If you dilute that with 100 more ml of PD then it would be a 16.5 mg/ml solution....and so on.
I did look in several books to make sure of the density of nicotine. Then I did the calculations. Then I called a pharmacist friend and had her do the calculations. Her husband is also a pharmacist and he did the same calculation and got the same results.
I had another posting yesterday with the theory of it. If someone wants to check my reasoning, feel free to contradict me. I very much would like to know if all 3 of us are wrong about the calculation.
Now...I don't know if I am wrong about getting the nicotine. I do know that I just purchased it.

Pure USP nicotine is sold in the US but I've been told there are strict guidelines that must be met before it can purchased. In other words you have to be a lab, university or other facility properly equipped to handle a highly toxic poison such as pure nicotine.
So, I'm curious... Please tell us how you're getting your hands on this stuff.

I hope all interested in this are aware of the hazards of handling very high concentrations of nicotine. My understanding is that a drop of pure nic on your skin will result in death. Maybe that's why people who handle it expect to get paid plenty.
Please be careful. Better yet, buy some 36mg juice and enjoy blending without risk.

I hope you have some microliter pipettes. I'm a chemist and you'll kill yourself if you don't mix it right. Please be careful!
