Will nicotine be banned?
On June 11, 2009, the U.S. Senate voted 79 to 17 to approve the bill, H.R. 1256/S. 982, known as the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act.
"4. Allow FDA to require changes to tobacco products to protect the public health – FDA will have authority to require changes in current and future tobacco products, such as the reduction or elimination of harmful ingredients, additives and constituents, if it decided that these changes will protect public health. FDA will be granted authority to change nicotine yields; Congress will maintain the authority to ban nicotine completely."
So congress has the power and micotine users are a minority. it's just a question of which political party want the votes most.
Candidate 1 : "I will ban niotine"
Candidate 2 : "Not only will I ban nicotine I wil have esisting user flogged"
Cheering whooping and hollering from the assembled masses

they are not allowed to ban nicotine only regulate it( that is what the bill says)
-
If they put some BS sin tax on nicotine i am moving to another country.
-
Yup, but they have the ability to regulate it to anything, except zero. From the discussion I heard on NPR a month or two back, they were saying that it would be counter productive for them to regulate it down to low.
They also said during that show that researchers have noticed a increase in the amount of nicotine in cigarettes in recent years.

Well if you read the bill, which I indeed quoted, that is not what it say what it says, and I quote "Congress will maintain the authority to ban nicotine completely."

Well you may not have to move, I am in the UK and taxes on tobacco are significntly higher here tha most places, to such and extend that there is thriving black market in 'bootleg' tobbaco, hence I pay no (UK) tax on my tobacco and have not done so for about 10 years thus 'robbing' the UK taxman of about £10,000
Actualy, if I switch to vaping it may actually be more expensive for me!!
I am trying to do the sums but it hard to do as I don't know how much liquid, batteries and various other apperatus I will require.
Also I am paying my 'supplier' twice what they get it for, if I brought the stuff in myself (which I could) I would save even more, but it is too much hassle.

Obiously the higher the nicotine content the less of the other poisons you have to smoke to get your fix.
So reducing nicotine content would make smoking more not less dangerous.

If they do that then a lot of products will be pulled. Pizza, Ketchup, potatoes, french fries, tomatoes, peppers, which should include hot sauce also.
What if Nicotine was pulled from Tomatoes instead of Tobacco? I wonder how the public would feel about that news cast lol.....
