Default The VVPV design and talk

So this is where the VVPV ( VariVolt PV ) can be discussed.

I have had to re=evaluate the design , the original design used a custom molded case that held 2 14500 batts and a VariVolt controller like the Buzz and a battery charger .
The enclosure/case molds were going to be $5-6k so !! NO GO

I am working on the new design that uses a different MFG type to make the case , It will be lower cost and still look good .

Also I am designing it for a single 18650 battery ! with a Variable voltage controller for the 3.6 to 6 volts control ( just like the Buzz ) and a 6ml Juice bottle with pump action + a Battery charger built into it.

SO the main difference will be the battery and the depth of the case .

BUT It will have A 18650 2400mah battery with Juice Feed and charger , I plan on a better voltage indicator as well for it .

    I have one question ?

DO you want a fixed voltage switch ( 6-10 position ) or a Pot like the BUZZ ( Either will have a knob for adjustment )

I think a 6-10 position switch would be leaps and bounds more popular than a pot. The intimidation factor of the big scary multimeter goes away. I think that alone keeps some people away from the Buzz.

Fixed would probably be better in my opinion as you can lose track of where your voltage is if you drink and vape or just experiment in general.
On a side note on case sourcing, did you try any of the cheaper flask manufacturers? Probably wouldn't work with a 18xxx battery but the 14's should fit.

    Oh YEA!

Fixed sounds wonderful! I can't wait for this to come out.

I like the pot better because it lets you set the voltage to whatever your using at the time. I don't use my multimeter because I don't care what voltage I'm at but instead the vapor and taste I get. But if the preset lasts longer then that one. Which ever has the longest life.

It takes years to build up trust, and only seconds to destroy it.

I think the presets would have a longer service life but it comes down to how often the sweep is used. Movement=friction=wear and then it's a matter of specific component design and quality. The best built device will eventually wear out though no matter what.

They have some mini 10 position rotary switches that I am looking at , then you would just have a reference card that would tell you the voltage IF you wanted to know.

THey are numbered as well ! I agree that the POT turns some people OFF to TECHIE.

The enclosure is a custom made one BUT it is fairly low cost for the molds and it can be anodized , I also think I can get the top and bottom CHROME plated ! or the whole thing.

Mike why not do both. I'm with 5card I like the pot and don't care what the voltage is. I just like fine tuning the buzz to the atty and juice I'm vaping at the moment.
    kwcharlie and heavymetalhero like this.

Having both would require design compromises as I'm pretty sure the two components aren't exactly the same size. From the accidental look I had at the inside of the Buzz, he is very meticulous with his designs, hence the poll. With the 10 position switch you might lose the half turn .1 Volt adjustment but you'll also lose the screwdriver too. You'd gain the ability to quickly switch between your light and dark liquid settings though.

It is always a trade off !!

In order to get more market place and less customer resistance. I believe that the switch would be more user friendly. ( Yes this is a business !)
The other MAIN thing is that it has a start and stop point ! the current pots do NOT have that and it can be confusing .

It would also have Numbered detentes so that is a big consideration as well.

I am almost starting from scratch on this one so any input is welcome.
