I would think that in the event of a battery failure, the veneering would give way where the slots were at. The veneering is just a way to beautify the tube and hide (without hindering) the safety slots....or am I thinking completely wrong?

(if someone wants to know they have a slotted bp under the wood, just look inside the tube and they can see the slots)

Perhaps but with voids under the veneer that big the areas would also be very vulnerable to accidental puncture and splitting. That veneer ends up less than 1/36" thick after it's sanded. Doesn't seem practical.

Would a thin mylar outer wrap glued to the tube get you back to a good working surface? It would still give a natural vent path, punch through easily compared to the main aluminum tube, while providing a full smooth working surface for the veneer and a bit of integrity over the voids. It shouldn't add much to the cost/time needed.

A stainless mesh added as an inner tube would look great and prevent FOD form entering the tube, in time it could maybe be colored, green with black mesh, I have a feeling the purple/pink requests I often see here could be both met.

Seriously, how many mods are out there? How many have friggin' blown up? Why can't bad PR be combated with facts these days ferchrissake!
Would not the wood act as a 600 square mm blow out plug?

Do you think a thin mylar wrap would really add much integrity to the strength of the veneer over a void like the one on the proto approved by ECF? There's also another issue I just thought of. When I glue the veneers on there is always a fair amount of squeeze out that I have to clean out of the holes that are already there. You know, the necessary ones. This squeeze out would just form a hard epoxy blob inside. Probably block the batteries.

    See post #252.

I really can't see it working with this design.

I'd give it a shot, one test pass. Thin is relative. You know what you are working with, though, what is practical; this was just a toss-off thought.

I maybe mistaken, but wouldn't the Veeneered versions only be "NOT ECF" approved? Who's to stop Notcigs from selling them as they are now on their OWN store?
