How long does your 510 atomizer perform perfectly

3 months now, All of my atomizers are still working perfect... batteries, I've lost 1 so far. Only use them at night and weekends so maybe thats why they have lasted so long, don't plan on doing cleaning cycles, blowing out, all that crap people talk about, just like to have a working e-cig when in need, and so far got 6 of them still working great, will order more if need to when time is right. 1 battery down so that got my attention. Maybe I've gotten lucky, cause they all work great still, no probs in 3 months.

I'm fairly new to this; have had my 510 for a couple of weeks and cleaned the atomisers every other day with compressed air. This has been working very well, but last night I did something different and feel I may have made a mistake. I looked in the atty after blasting with canned air and there appeared to be some wadding stuck to the wick. I assumed it was from a cart, so took some tweezers and pulled it out. However, rather a lot of material came out and today the atomiser, though working, doesn't quite seem; there is less vapour production than usual. Have I actually pulled out part of the atty's wick? The stuff I pulled out was not metallic, but looked like stringy bits of wadding. As I do not really know what a atty wick consists of, I am unsure if I damaged the wick or not.

OK, from further reading around the forum, it would seem that I have pulled out the fibreglass wick. There are those on the forum who assert that this doesn't matter, but I would beg to differ. It is still producing vapour, but it seems to have no taste to it and to me just isn't at all satisfying.

Well I am happy to report that I have successfully restored all but one of my atomizers to almost original condition. So that's a very good record indeed. The cleaning I have been doing is to soak them in rubbing alcohol for several days if they do not respond to an overnight soak. i had one stubborn one that I had to do the hydrogen peroxide burn to recover but it did work where the alcohol didn't.

So I am very pleased with the results of my efforts as I expected the number of failures to be much higher.

As you don't say how long you have had them that part of the post is rather unhelpful.
How as you say "a few days" at one point I can assume they last at least a few days

I bought my first 510 kit on 03-19-09. I have bought several since then. All the atomizers in use now are at least 2 to 4 months old. I just lost one the otherday. The 2nd total failure I've had. This one the resistance went to 30000 ohms so it is really dead and no hope of recovery. The older attys do require cleaning more often than the newer ones do.

Right now I'm vaping away on a two month old atty that I thought for sure was dead. I was getting nothing out of it and just set it aside other than the times I read suggestions in this forum for cleaning them- Hyd. Prox., boiling water, alc. cleaning. Nothing seemed to work so I just figured it was dead.

I read a post yesterday where someone had recommended Polident 3 Minute for cleaning 510 attys. Sooo, I went out yesterday and picked some up and took two attys that I stopped using and tried to clean them. This one wasn't functioning at all and the other had very light vape production.

Steps-

1. Hot water from the tap and one Polident tab and two attys in the bubbly. On other thread they said 10 minutes. I know I was longer since I forgot about them for a bit. When I got back the Polident was still bubbling.

2. Took them out and ran hot tap water over them from both ends.

3. Pushed some canned air at them from the battery side of the atty although I really don't think that was necessary.

4. Let sit with cartridge side down for about 24 hours to let them dry out.

5. Dripped a couple drop in the atty and gave it a try. Nothing. Put a fresh battery on and tried- nothing. Reloaded the cartridge and tried- a bit of vape. About a minute or so later, I thought I had a new atty on. Vapes like a champ.

I was impressed. My thanks to whoever suggested it as I still haven't found the thread I was reading yesterday and I'm tired of looking. Plus I'll probably end up posting these instructions somewhere else if I keep looking.

Two months in and no equipment failed yet.

since Middle of June, no failures. Knock on wood. Did clean attys in august. Usually I leave cart side down when ever I set it down.

I have been vaping for 12 weeks and 2 atmys one on the pt the other on btrys, they are ok until now, I am a heavy vaporer.

Ummmm...no way!

Here's a big secret. Many vapers are now savvy to ordering more than one atty at a time. Hey! - so do I. BUT...the warranty on these is two WEEKS! So what are they doing? They get all four attys out and try them all to make sure they work! Right? Raise your hand if you've done this. NOW - NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!

Why? Because storing an atty for any length of time unused with juice in it will shorten the life considerably. EVEN if you blow it out, the juice remaining will still thicken and harden in the atty, overwork your coil -and VOILA! - one week atty anyone?

The burn method alluded to by Pete is the only way to assure this doesn't happen, but only if you do it from the start, and only if you do it correctly.

EDIT - I never let any fluid touch my atty except for unadulterated PG ejuice. No water, no cleaner, no vinegar, no peroxide, no pepsi, no nothing.

EDIT #2 - Never top up your cart before going to bed. Always vape it down to where it needs to be topped up in the morning. Leave the cart on, and unscrew the battery (if you want your battery to last in the morning). Some people stand em up. I suspend mine horizontally.

EDIT #3 - Except for the straw mod (which I highly recommend) keep your unit as stock as possible. I don't use teabags, no coffee filters, I don't pull out the coil wisk with tweezers, etc etc. - flooding the atty is a no-no. I don't drip except on a brand new atty, and only enough to prime it a bit (maybe a drop or two at the most using a very moist cart).

One more thing. I've mentioned this in many posts over the past few weeks because it is becoming apparent that noobs do not have the patience to correctly build/re-stuff a cartridge. This is the most important thing you can learn on your PV. You can't manufacture a battery, you can't manufacture an atty, but you CAN restuff the cart correctly with practice. The vast majority of problems posted on this forum are due to incorrect cart maintenance/stuffage.

Also could I ask (or be pointed in the direction of) advice on the correct cart maintenance/stuffage method you recommend
