Zorba, so you're using a piece that fills about half the inner cart? Do you double it or use a single piece?
Just a single piece. Not too sure what you mean by double it. If you're talking about folding it over, like they do in the BFP mod forum pics, I think they do that because their carts are allot bigger, and the foam pieces are a little narrow. I also bought a different brand foam (same stuff, just was a smaller pack, so if I didn't work I didn't spend more than 5$) but it's like a block, so I can cut it as thick or thin as I want. But the same brand they use should be plenty thick for the itty bitty 401 carts.

If you're concerned about driving, the best and easiest thing to do is carry extra carts. Trying to refill a cart while driving is a huge distraction. Doesn't matter what cart mod you use, if you're driving when it goes empty, just pop on a fresh cart. It's the safest way to go.

But lets be realistic here. The 401 only holds 10 drops of liquid. No matter what cart mod you use, it's only going to vape so long. Carrying around some full carts takes no room since they're so tiny, and they don't leak at all. I've had full carts in my pocket all day, and not a drop leaked.

I agree completely. Especially as EVO carts work so well.

Yeah, when it comes down to it the carts are what they are. It won't be long 'till the longer carts are available in the US. I'm still interested in hearing about mods that work and how/why. I've been using the spring mod just to try. Seems to wick good...

They're using a generic buff puff now. Something about the way that it's constructed wicks better than the blue foam.

Available in every drug store and larger supermarket.

I didn't vote since I can't say I have a favorite yet... I use Fluval and don't have any problems getting all my juice to wick fine. I do want to try the blue foam plug mod- the spring method sounded good but the foam that is more springy and able to wedge in the top of the cart sounds like the best bet... I am going to get some Aquaclear blue foam for this... although I am very tempted to try my household air filter... We buy from Lowes the washable air filter made from a blue foam type material... does not appear to be coated w/ anything, no smell or what have you... & it is definitely springy type foam but coarser... also has a stiffness to it because it is dense. I haven't tried it but am tempted til I get some Aquaclear from Petsmart.

I am not looking for the XL carts because I don't think I will like them. the carts that are called XL for the 401 look exactly like the Sidesho carts and I don't like them... and they still don't hold much more liquid but regardless of what they hold, if no method will allow you to wick up all or even most of the juice, it doesn't matter how much can be held in it...
I'm just sayin' other than the color, they look exactly alike. Oh! & on the XL there is a little "nib" on the bottom to keep the cart from being pushed all the way to the end of the mouthpiece... on the Sidesho it doesn't have that because the ridges are inside the mouthpiece to keep it from being pushed all the way in. But, looks exactly the same otherwise.

Default Blue Foam- Marineland Rite Size U Works Best for Me

I tried the spring mod and had to do it vertical instead of sideways because it slipped down into the cart. I have a sidesho and it doesn't have the lips at the top. The poly was getting pulled down into the center of the spring. Then I tried the straw mod. I used two coffee stirrers because they fit into the cart easily. The cart has this divider at the bottom and the straws would go down in each section. I still had juice left in my carts with both methods and was getting juice in my mouth. Then I went to petsmart and got the Marineland Rite Size U Bonded foam sleeve. I like this best. I tried 9 different sizes of foam to find what worked best. I ended up with cutting the foam to 1/2" tall by 1/4" wide and fill 3/4 with liquid, take tweezer and begin stuffing foam till it gets wet and then pull back to top. I get a couple more drops on top of the foam and then puff away. With constant vaping, a cart lasts about an hour. If I travel and smoke like normal ( a cigs worth every 20 mins or so), a cart lasts for several hours. I went home for Thanksgiving and took 4 prefilled carts with me. The drive is 90 minutes and I stayed all day at my parents sneaking puffs when nobody was looking and drove back home. I only used 3 carts all day. I also tried several combos with straws and springs and the blue foam, but the one simple 1/2" by 1/4" is the simplest and best for me. I have rubber stoppers for the end of my carts and the PCC to hold up to 4 prefilled carts so I don't have to worry about leaking or carrying them in my pocket. Hope that helps. I kept a notepad and kept up with flavor, hit, vapor, and length of vaping on 9 different sizes of the foam before landing on the 1/2" x 1/4" size. Love the sidesho from modernvapor. Next up, trying out different e-juices (have some cool flavors coming from ms ts bakery). Finally, smoke free after 19 years and several tries. This little sidesho and the right filler for the cart made the difference! Best of luck.
