Default Can E-cigs Help my COPD?

I told some friends about this sit. They think it is great. One of them wanted to know if e-cigs could help his COPD. He already smokes, so he doesn't want to change unless it helps. I though all of you could help. any advice would be nice....thanks

It helps avoid further damage, but with COPD, you cannot reverse the damage. You've damaged the walls of the alveoli. Just be glad you've optimized your ability to get rid of your CO2. COPD is about managing symptoms, and improving quality of life.

I'm too young to experience it myself, but hopefully all who are on multiple controllers can reduce their meds from here on out!!! $$$$$

I have mild copd and need to get off the cigs before it gets worse and am working on it with my e-cig
On days when I mostly vape the symptoms are much less.
On days when I smoke they are much worse.
It really would depend on how bad the damage is I think.

I was a smoker for over 32 years.

5 years ago i was diagnosed with copd..

taking 4 medications and doing my best to avoid oxygen therapy..

I had tried soooo many times to quit smoking.

patches didnt work for me, the nic gum didnt work for me, cold turkey didnt work for me, and chantix almost killed me..

    I started vaping dec 2nd of 09..

since then, ive tons more energy, can climb the stairs with out gasping for breath, can vacume the floors without having to sit and gasp for breath.

recently i went to my primary doctor, he listend to my lungs and was amazed..

He told me that i could stop taking my 2 of my meds, tho he would monitor me from time to time..

I see my lung doc, my pulm doc in 2 months for a full check up, etc..

I know that my copd cant be cured, but i can slow the progression of it..

for the 1st time in 5 yrs i feel healthy...

ecigs work for me, this is my story and im sticking to it

I've read many stories on here from people who have COPD and have been helped.

I voted for "Yes it helps. I do not have COPD." But I was well on my way--chronic bronchitis and asthma. I could hear myself wheeze every night when I got into bed. The wheezing is gone, the coughing is gone. I can't say that using the electronic cigarette directly caused this miracle. But indirectly, there is no question. I stopped smoking. My lungs got better. It's that simple.

I smoked for 40 years. I have COPD which was diagnosed 3 years ago. I was on breathing treatments four times a day. I quit smoking and started vaping 9 months and 4 days ago. I can now breathe, no coughing and no longer have to take breathing treatments. My doctor said my lungs sound better than they have in years.

So definitely if your friend quits smoking and starts vaping he will see many benefits.

martha1014, would you be willing to write to the reporter from the Canadian paper about your story?

Link to the story: Electronic cigarette sparks interest

At the end of the story it says:

"The Citizen would like to hear from readers who've used this new device and are willing to share their experiences and opinions. E-mail: btrick@pgcitizen.ca. "
