    Default halogen atomisers

I wonder if it would be possible to use a halogen lamp for atomising?

Maybe even an infra-red laser diode? (now that would be an advertiser's dream, new form of smoking that involves lasers .. geek joy)

...been discussed on the forum. If you're a tinkerer, have at it!

I've thought about that, Quartz, halogen, ceramic. unfortunately can't seem to find something that small.
Lasers could work, I've Once used a laser out of a DVD burner to heat up some stuff but the object needs to be black to absorb all of the energy, and it didn't get really hot.

There's a site called Wicked Lasers that sells lasers powerful enough to accomplish this feat, unfortunately it costs about $1700 to buy one

DealExtreme has lots of really inexpensive lasers that cannot be sold and shipped in the U.S., but can be purchased elsewhere. It would require a redesign of the e-cig, but a laser heater for a lump-type atomizer might solve a lot of problems. Fraught with dangers, however. If anyone could do it, Trog could.

I doubt laser technology is likely to provide any reasonable solution soon. I have a powerful laser hand held device (about twice the size of a fountain pen) that shines for miles (and has documentation that warns that the beam can cause heating. You'd need to be damned cold to notice!).

I use the laser as a safety device on my boat - it can signal my presence in fog and can act as a locational aid if I get in trouble. I can think of many reasons why some countries might prohibit these devices; eg, my one can track a plane coming in to land.

I'm damned sure the thing won't cause enough heat to be an alternative to a atomiser.

Check the videos linked from DealExtreme on a laser lighting birthday cake candles and instantly popping balloons. It depends on the laser and the focus. If the intensity were focused on an atomizer, it could heat in a split-second. The dangers would come from poor design or a malfunction.

There are plenty of things we could use. I recently found the advent of a microhotplate, which can reach 350c. unfortunately this technology is not avialable commercially. The problem is that we cannot find anything in this small package.

DC - perhaps you've a point and a lens could make a difference. I'll not be trying it - at short range the light causes spots on your eyes just looking at the laser dot but perhaps a highly engineered lens could cause heat. I do know that the laser is very heavy on batteries.

I'll have a look at DealExtreme as TB suggests but I really doubt lasers are an answer.
