Eric (the Bender) thinks he can help... He closed a cylinder for me and we heated some e-liquid well above boiling, it turned to a tarlike stain at the bottom of the glass. I added some more liquid (after a minute of cooling) and superheated the glass to see the reaction. The glass cracked and blew out with a little energy from the ignites e-juice. Conclusion: Standard neon glass will be durable enough for our uses as long as the ciol is not in direct contact with the glass. The heated E-Juice has no wat to heat to temps that will endanger the glass. He has two specific types of electrodes on hand, an old style and his preferred new style. The old style has two single strand wires through the glass to the neon electrode. The new style is far more interesting. It has two stranded wires that meet the electrode wires inside the sealed area of the glass tube. Eric believes he can easily replicate this. I.E. mate the coil wire with the lead wires with no weld/solder on the wires. He gave me two new style electrodes and two cut down old style (to expose the wires inside the tube) for our review. I will see if I can figure out how to post pictures later today. If anyone wants hi res pics, PM me with an e-mail address and i will send them right over. Eric wanted to see if he could weld glass for one of my designs. 1. melt one end of a tube closed (easy,he does every day) 2. open a hole in the side (easy again) 3 pass a small tube through and seal shut with the glass He can and did, I have that too. I was thinking of an e-juice delivery tube that cannot leak if on it's side. By passing the tube through and having 3-4 mm protruding into the main cylinder. He needs a few nichrome coils to "mate" in glass with electrode leads for further testing. It would be helpful to have a couple of coils with leads welded/soldered so we can compare resistance and performance. |

Would a train transformer be a viable power source for e-cig atomizers??? I am wondering about the voltage and amperage. Fully adjustable? Also, might there be a manufacturing application for a heating element inside a glass tube?? Is so, this could become (or might be)a "commonly available" item and we are/would be able to buy and modify an existing products. |

I've also reached the conclusion that the coil will probably have to not touch the glass at all. How do we keep them separated? Nichrome can be a bit "springy" sometimes. You've got my email, let's see the pics! Are you going to use the train transformer for testing, or for real ecig usage? I doubt there are heating elements inside of glass tubes (except for halogen light bulbs, etc). The other thread is talking about ceramic heating elements, though. In bulk orders it will be less than $2 per element. Maybe that's what you're looking for? Ceramic has (I believe) great heat-conducting properties. |

Not sure what I am lookikg for. That's why I joined in on this thread. You are looking to make an a cased bulb, I would like to try an exposed replaceable element. since we both want glass, Ifigured we could double up and both get a sample or two to see what works. I'll need a few samples of your bulb design so Eric can seal it,if you want him to. I think you need one or two of the electrode leads(from the neon electrodes) to attach to your filaments. They have been sealed in the glass so we know they work. Crib may be another resource for you. |

I like your concept a lot, I've been searching for ipod battery mods with little luck. the batteries themselves can be had for under $20, put out 5 volts and should be able to charge via usb pretty easily. As for an atty to use/modify, the 701 cigar atty is pretty beefy, not sure how the liquid feed would work, although if there there a very soft plastic squeeze bottle or small priming ball or manual pump (like on a small engine but smaller) molded into a side of the pack, perhaps you could give the pack a gentle squeeze then hit it, at 5 volts it would burn off quickly to reduce the risk of flooding the atty. Anyway, just thinking out loud, your concept is pretty sweet - I'll check back for updates. |

There is a sweet pump mod using a travel size hairspray pump (I think). The poster claims he reduced the length of the tube on the spray head so to reduce the amount of juice per pump... Seemed a pretty wicked setup. A more efficient vaping coil seems the next step. We will being investigating a few different coil designs and take it from there. Once the coils are sorted out, we can see what delivery system works best. I am considering moving away from cigarette looking designs. I see this as problematic with anti-smoking groups and the Federal Dumb A**es. Imho we welcome all to join in... |
