Product Options Unavailable (Unable to Select) ** READ **
Hey Guys,
Seems like this question is raised A LOT ... We have it posted in 2 different areas on the site, but it doesn't seem like enough
So, lets go ahead and go over it here.
PureSmoker.com stays live 100% of the time. That means, when a product is out of stock, the option for it will disappear. Although the "In Stock" Status may still appear and say that it is, when options disappear, its actually not. Sorry this may be confusing for some, but its our only way to keep backorders to a minimum which in turn, allows clients to know what we have 100% of the time, so they know what they order will infact ship!
Now, to explain WHY it *may* still say "In Stock" when it essentially is NOT in stock.
When working with product codes, there is something called a *Parent* and *Child* product. Lets use CaSH Menthol Juice as an example.
CaSH Menthol Juice *Parent Product*
10ml - 36mg *Child Product*
10ml - 24mg *Child Product*
When 36mg is out of stock, that option will disappear, and you will only see 24mg. Now, when 24mg disappears, yet you still see CaSH Menthol Juice it means we have ziltch/nada/nothing ...
Now, I can go in and personally Change the Parent Product to read "Out Of Stock" when there are in fact NO selections, however, we cancel roughly 20-25 orders a day, and when an order is canceled, the stock contained within that order than free's up again and is automatically re-added. Thus, if the product option says *Out Of Stock* but a child product is re-added, Live Inventory shuts down and those bottles of juice are ordered over and over and over again.
So, with that said. To stay 100% live (through order processing/cancellations/re-add's) and not succomb to backorders or multiple product purchases that we don't have in stock, we will continue to use the method we currently use ...
Hopefully that explains it, and I didn't just confuse you more ...

P.S. = My PM Mailbox gets really full, really fast, so bear with me if it takes me a few days to get to your PM :) Don't forget, you can always contact us at info@puresmoker.com :)

That should explain it very clearly for people that did not get it before. I, for one, like this system because I know that if I can select it, THAT MEANS ITS IN STOCK AND NOT GOING ON SOME BACKORDER, and IF I CAN NOT SELECT IT, THEN IT MEANS YOU ARE OUT OF STOCK ---So thanks Steve as your system works great and is in real time-----Sun

I agree with Sun Vaporer. I think it's an effective way to run inventory.
Good job cashmere.

When an item is listed in stock and has children, could you not have the script check the status of the children in code and only display product if a child has 0> items?
It would remove a ton of the confusion and still allow your site to be 100% live.

I agree.
If I pick a product, and it says "In Stock" I expect it to be, you know, In Stock, not have to start selecting from drop downs and not getting any choice to select. At first I thought I was doing something wrong, not logged in etc... before I read somewhere else on this forum that if you can't select from the drop down, it's out of stock.
It is very confusing if you don't know how to work the system.
