    Default Given up on 510s.

I have been using an e-cig since last June. I'm very happy with it. A few months ago I got my first Reo. It's a grand. I love it. What I don't love is the performance I get with a 510 atty. They work ok for a while, then they get really awesome about a day before they quit. Or they last 20 minutes. I have finally given up and switched to 801 shortys. I have a 1.8 ohm that freakin rocks on flavor and vapor. I had a 2 ohm that just died a week or so ago. It was great. And it was 6 months old. I never got that kind of performance with an 510. Just wondering if anybody else feels the same.

I probably use my atties way too long to start with (3-6 months)...but I'm with you. I'm not that fond of the 510s. I use Mini REOs. My mods are all sporting LR306s except for two. One is a LR510 and the other is a Boge 2.0Ω Carto. No...you're not alone.

There are plenty of REOnauts who love 801's, including the modmaster himself

I got my 1.8 801 from Ikenvape. I've been very happy with their customer service. And their products seem to be high quality as well. I've tried a couple of the 306s, but wasn't really impressed.

each atty has its own strengths IMO.

But every atty ha the same weakness IMO Consistency !!

I like almost all attys at first.

510 = easiest to use, and good mix of flavor and TH
306 = takes a bit longer to get used to on a bottom feeder IMO, good flavor and great TH while its working.
801 = even longer to get the hang of on bottom feeder, but has the best flavor going. Even shorts in LR is too cool for me.
901 = pretty easy, good flavor and TH. Need a drip shield to be great though.

The right cartomizer is the most consistent vape out there I think. It may not taste 100%, but you and get 100% TH from them. And it can taste and perform exactly the same for days. Its the only thing I've found that the first hit in the morning feels and tastes exactly the same as the last hit the night before.

The short answer though is what ever works the best for you is great.
Congrats on finding something that works well for your style.

It easy to jump the gun though and think you have the one. If you use the "product" exclusively for 60-90 days and you still feel the same way then you have found the one !

I always have at least one 801 Wood going. In fact I'm having my Paduak and Ebony Woodvils changed over to 801 some time in the next few years. For now I have two 801 Purpleheart Classic Woodys and and Oak/Oak Woodvil 801 that will hold me over. I typically use IKV 801 1.7-2.0 ohm any length tube. Going through my old stasth I found some SLB 3.0, used but cleaned, that DH used when he was using the 801 Pen Style. I'm going to try them on a REO Wood at 5 and 6 volt.

My first three Midi Woods are planned to be 801.

{edit} Adding.... what Tim said about consistency. Every atty is different from the next, even same production run, and even if hand assembled in USA.

Also, although I have just about every carto in my stash (I went through 9 months of received orders that I had stashed, last night) we haven't really used them. Last month, as a result of several Reonauts talking up the CCV 510 Boge cartos and the 510 Reserectors, I ordered some. DH says he's found his perfect vape with Mini @ 3.7 volt and Boge 2.0. I'm loving the Resurector 1.7 on Grand and Mini @ 3.7 volt.

Tried 801's before and honestly not a fan of them. They don't give out the heat that I'm looking for which is why I'm a 306 junky. Since 801's in general give a cooler vape compared to 510's and 306's.

I agree that cartos are more consistent in flavor but it lacks in taste compared to an atomizer. Although consistent flavor can be achieved with an atty as well. The trick is to keep the coil wet at all times. Not to much and not to little which takes a bit of work to figure out.

Which is why a lot of people that don't like bottom fed devices never take the time to figure out. The problem from what I've noticed. It's either they overfeed the atomizer or underfeed it. You have to be in the middle if you really want a good experience with your REO while using atomizers.

The problem with underfeeding is that you risk killing your atomizer. Which sounds like the problem that your having right now. First, you get awesome flavor from your atomizer. You continue to vape past 5-8 draws which will get the coil extremely hot. Then you try to feed it again and it dies on your. This will probably not happen with your first few times doing it but it WILL eventually kill your atomizer since you have just popped the coil. It's the same effect as dry burning your atomizer.

If you do a blind squonk correctly (stopping when you hear the gurgle) than it will be the same as if you were to drip 2-3 drops into your atomizer. Afterwards, depending on how long or hard your draw is, will determine when you will have to squonk again. I usually say about 5-6 hits because I take fairly long draws (4-5 seconds). Which is the exact amount of hits it would take with dripping to have to drop some more in there. As I said before, you should give it a rest after those initial hits before you feed it again.

Do you get less flavor from an atty with a bottom feeder vs. dripping? Absolutely not, it's just harder to determine how much nicquid is actually in the atomizer with bottom fed devices such as the REO. Of course you can look to see the liquid coming out of the atomizer with a regular squonk. It doesn't tell you exactly how much liquid is actually going into your atomizer. There's still juice getting into an atomizer and it will perform the SAME exact way. To say that it's different would be illogical.

Overall, people do have preferences with what atomizers that they like. Some like more flavor and a cooler vape and they will gravitate towards 801's and 901's. While others like more heat and TH while sacrificing a little flavor and so, they use 510's and 306's.

Lastly, make sure that you clean your atomizer on a regular basis. Usually after a day or two so that gunk won't build up on your atomizer coil. Which will effect the overall performance of it as well.
