Rhapsodies Fire is the name of a fictional female character in a series of books that I read a very long time ago. This character was one that I found easy to identify with....a very long time ago.Dig the name, but can't remember the character or the story.
Guess I should go read it again.

My avatar is a closeup of a meerschaum pipe in my collection. It's a Turkish interpretation of an Austrian interpretation of Santa Claus -- the basic and traditional design goes back well over a century to the Viennese meerschaum carvers. Since shortly after World War II, Turkey has made it illegal to export their block meerschaum, so all meerschaum carving is now done by Turkish artists.
Here's an example of 19th century Austrian meerschaum carving:

In high school, my buddies decided my earlobes were akin to the Johnnie Gregory mudflaps commonly equipped on 18 wheeled tractor-trailer rigs and started calling me Mudflap. When I graduated and walked across the stage to receive my diploma, a dozen of them all hollered "Mudflap!" in unison and my grandmother gave them trouble for it. It's one of many fond memories I have of her, so I've been using it as a forum handle since the late 90's.
When I was 7 or 8 my friends started rhyming my name Nina-Neener, Neener Beaner and it stuck. When DH and I started dating he heard my mom use one of the names and loved it. From that day on I became his Beans![]()
