using the holes as a carb works great or just covering one up. I've had mine for a week and was just about to give up on it. i did the pyramid tea bag mod and used juice off my caps and now waiting for my juice to get here! I'm loving it now, hated it at first

I have been using a 4081 for a week now. Haven't had an old-school cig since my 4081 arrived. But lemme tell you, it hasn't been easy...I started out using the pre-filled carts. I was having to draw way too hard to get a good amount of vapor. Then, it seemed like just as the vapor would really start to flow, something would happen, the led would start flashing and it would stop. After I got sick of getting e-juice in my mouth from the pre-filled carts, I decided that I would give direct dripping on the atomizer a try. It was definitely a step up. Still not what I needed to get the same satisfaction as a regular cig, but closer. Next I took a look at the cartridge. I took off the end cap, and tried that for awhile. A little bit better. I don't know about on your cartridges, but on mine, after I took the end cap off, there is still a sealed end on the cartridge with another small hole, much like the one in the end cap. So I took an exacto knife, and cut the mouth end of the cartridge off, just enough to totally open it up. It's pretty much just a plastic sleeve now that I put on the atty. Wow! What a difference. It's super easy to take a drag now. I just put two drops of juice on the wick for the atomizer and you should see the vapor I get out of this thing! My friend couldn't believe it. He couldn't believe it could make that much "smoke". Finally, I'm getting the performance that I wanted. Hope this helps!

If you're still having a hard draw, your atty may be clogged with old juice residue (it seems to like to stick in the air holes). I recently cleaned mine out and a couple pieces of (what I assume were) old, dried liquid came out. Seems to draw a bit easier for me now.

Just a thought if nothing else works.
