Usually dry burning kills off the gunk unless you're vaping hard on sweet/dark juices and it you've been reusing the stardust for quite awhile now. Technically speaking, dry burning shouldn't burnt the wick, wicks are design to withstand very high temperature!

If you're using dcc in e dct, try refilling & then topping off by filling e polyfill material too. Then, you can wait out for 5-10mins before vaping or you could cover e bottom airhole of e dcc and inhale thru' e drip tip hard w/o pressing e manual button down. After you've gotten a slight hint of flavour, then you can start vaping. Hope this helps!

with practise u should be able to dry burn until the wick turn white. It will take some practice and time and maybe a few burnt out coils.

The good thing about silica is that it is able to withstand 1800deg F so most of the sticky gunk is able to be vaporized. If there still brown stuff, there's only 3 possibilities, too saturated with gunk that dry burn is only able to solidify them, silica content of the wick is less than 95% thus unable to tahan heating and cooling cycles or u're vaping at a power than burns instead of heating it. Worst case is u're using non-braided silica. These stuff melts at high temp.

For myself I use a bulli a2tm I just take the wick out and burn it using a blowtorch until the wick glows white-red and when it cools it will be good as new. Wick changing is usually done when it becomes too thin after repeated removal.
