I don't think it's our place to censor anyone, that is something that the mods should do according to forum rules. I'd like the forum rules to include the number of accounts people are allowed to operate for the sake of clarity, honesty and forum sanity.

Actually its not as simple as detecting multiple accounts on a single IP address. You set the forum up for that, what happens to husbands and wives that both have accounts??

Setting the forums to check for drastically changing IP address wouldn't work either. Like mine it changes from day to day. I am mobile and ip address is dependent on which tower I am on.

While I agree in principle with you Kate, I don't know that there is anything the mods can do that's really proactive.

About the only thing I can think of is putting a blurb in the rules that states "at forum owner's discretion xyz" and deal with it on a case by case basis. Banning the user because they have a dynamic IP's or families that have a single outbound IP (like mine) wouldn't be a practical way to enforce it.

I'm sorry, but how slack do you have to be to sock-puppet on a forum. It shows an incredible lack of minerals. Internet interaction is so insulated from real life and consequences as it is, if you think that someone on the net isn't going to like what you have to say, don't say it. Don't hide behind another level of anonymity you gutless wonder. Annoys me...

All I'd like to see is a clear statement about what the rules are, I don't really care about enforcement at the moment, that's another matter. Some people give themselves away anyway.

If the rules state that multiple accounts are not permitted then it's clear and there can be no argument about what's acceptable.

If someone says there are no rules and they were having a laugh and taking it seriously shows a lack of sense of humour then it's harder to say that it's not acceptable behaviour.

I still don't know who God, Buddha or JJ are and I don't see any bans in place so maybe the admins don't mind multis.

If that's the case I'd like to know because I'm not well enough to stay here when everyone's identity is in question. I have a psychiatric disorder that can give me serious problems and insecurity and lies can trigger me off. It might be better for me to just bow out rather than get paranoid.

It's not good for the community either to be messed about with multiple personality scams.

Yeah Drew, God kicked the good Syster pretty well

Witches are the next best thing though and God doesn't stand a chance against them.

    EDIT to add:

Didn't JumpinJackFlash get pushed out, or did he/she jump?

The 'light touch' moderation does have it's draw-backs (like this one)
but maybe it's better this way?

Perhaps there should be a poll on 'stronger moderation required' ?

Personally I think this community is strong enough to withstand
    occasional trolls & other fun-lovin-criminals.

There really is no way to block multiple accounts without blocking almost anyone coming in from a work IP, etc. There is no easy solution to the forum account management problem. It's an issue with all forums.

The only way to deal with it on a personal level is to develop a thicker skin. It sounds harsh but basically that is what every experienced net user learns to do. You could avoid forums on the net and deprive yourself of a lot of really good information or you could use common sense and understand that your 'trust' level of anyone on the net should never rise above a certain level.

If someone talks sh.t or plays retarded games, then step back, chuckle and go to another thread. If you're bored you can play with the troll to see if you can turn it around on them. Either way, in the end, it's just random words without any real meaning.

If you find you are being drawn past your comfort zone, then a few days away from the forums does wonders to help regain perspective.

Wanting to know what the rules are qualifies me for counselling.

I only want to know if we have any rules.
