What about if people who were given freebies to review were expected (ie, it's made a forum rule) to explain the provenance of the goods, would that help?

Are people saying that when reviewers get free products to review or discount codes to give out, that makes them affiliated with those vendors?
Wow...I guess a lot of us reviewers are affiliated with a LOT of different vendors.
So if I receive product from 5 different vendors (for free) to do reviews on, then I'm working for all 5 of them and can't be unbiased about any of them?
Circular logic dudes...GOOD JOB!

You're taking that out of context, I only know 4 others that have an e-cig, I live in an area with a predominant amount of smokers
By "exploit" I mean I can get a jump start in my area before other sellers jump on the bandwagon
So if I did start selling stuff for a profit what would I choose to keep my overhead down?
Hmmmm....Let me think.....
Perhaps the devices which I have had a good experience with in the past?
Kate,
I don't think parked's reviews in the past were meant to be missleading or malicious in any way, furthermore there are so many members here on ECF that I find it extremely difficult to believe that a single memeber can sway and exploit the opinions of the masses

it's not the fact it happens Kate , it's the fact people don't realise how the whole code thing works .
I've got no problem with people doing video reviews from items they recieved FREE and giving a good review will make people buy it and use their code resulting in more FREE stuff for the reviewer. It's just educating the masses to show that's how it all works.

offcourse it does. Giving a bad review you will not get sales so people won't buy that product , therefore less referals and less freebies for you to review.
All very simple

Then you underestimate the power of a review.
Why do you think the review system has been in place almost as long as selling has? Why do you think reviews have gone from word-of-mouth at the market to international syndication?
Because they're VERY powerful tools for a business.

Posting reviews of a product you know you are going to sell exploits uninformed and credulous people if you do not make your interests clear, in this case the reviewer wasn't impartial.
Members of the community need to have accurate, reliable and trustworthy information.

I think that's a great idea. Full disclosure. Share a code, but let it be known that you profit from it's use. And not in the fine print.
Hey, if it saves me money, I don't care if a code helps you out.
I recall Terraphon stating that he wouldn't mind if suppliers wanted to give him free stuff, but they shouldn't expect it to sway his reviews. That's integrity, and all reviewers should have it.

every code here will have a matching reviewer for who's code it belongs to , so if you yourself post a code then the reviewer who's code it is will get the referal.
It happens i know , I just wish more people realise why reviewers have codes. It doesn't just benefit the customer.
