Avatar Problems helpppp

I hope someone can advise me here because ive a strange problem i can't

seem to work out, i uploaded my avatar from my laptop and when i go into

my profile my picture is there but it isnt showing up on the forums,

also i followed the instructions for a non smoking counter banner for my

sig but all that shows up in my profile is a white box with a red cross in it,

any help or advice is greatly appreciated
