Default Help I can't stop snussing

Ok I'm loving this stuff too much now. I went out this weekend and picked up a small refrigerator this weekend to keep my snus in. Got a small Magic Chef from Home Depot for $99 that works great. The wife was complaining about getting attacked by snus every time she went in the fridge.
Upon cleaning my supply out I found I had 45 cans built up. This wouldn't be bad accept I just placed an order for a 10 pack of General Onyx and 18 more loose cans from Northener.
Guess my question would be how long this will keep in the fridge?

I'm up to over 30 cans in the fridge already, and have still more on order since I'm only about halfway through the list of everything Northerner has that I want to taste.

But look on the back of your tins, and you will find an expiration date. My General Onyx says "Best Fore 22-07/2009" (I presume that means July 22nd) my Nick & J West says "Bast Fore 01-06-09" (yes it is apparently expired) and my Thunder Frost says "Bast Fore 30/10: 2009" which I guess is the day before Halloween. I understand from people who should know more about these things than I do that the "best used by" or "bast fore" dates do matter. They are a perishable product that really does go seriously bad eventually, from what I've read, and that date assumes they are refrigerated. Looking through the date stamps on a bunch of them, I get the idea at least some of them can keep (chilled) for as long as six months from whenever they were made.

But my understanding is that they keep a long time if frozen, preferably in an airtight container so they don't dry out. So I guess my drill should be to keep most of my stock frozen, with a few tins in the fridge, moving a new tin from deep freeze to chilled storage as I use them. But I must try a few of each first, you know, so I haven't actually frozen any yet myself, only keeping them in the lettuce crisper so far. I also got the idea somewhere that they can benefit from being kept in a container with a little moisture added to it once in a while to keep from drying out in the fridge if they are there for more than a week or so after being opened. Makes sense to me, and I have some little water absorbing devices that I got long ago to hydrate bulk smoking tobacco, but I imagine a little piece cut off of a sponge or something like that would probably do the job.

Or, you could probably cure yourself of this thing for a while by choking on a vile Marlboro "snus." And those, suspiciously enough given their bizarre chemical taste, are the only snus I've found or heard of so far which are NOT kept chilled before sale. Hmmmm.

I keep mine in the freezer, as recommended by Northerner.

I found this place at the weekend and many people there seem to think the freezer is a good idea as well

I also read many times that snus can last long after official expiration date if it is kept frozen.

Mohave: The "purified portion" (Wise/Oomph brand) can be stored in room temperature. The same goes for CatchDry, I believe.

I can't quite figure out what the "purified portion" really is. It looks expensive for the quantity (only 6g) you get, and the nicotine content (6mg) looks small, just going on what I see in the product description on Northerner, but I don't know if it's right to compare them that way.

Have you got any experience using it?

Dates in all of Europe are [almost] always written day-month-year so it has not expired yet (01-Jun-09).

Also, there is a distinction between the phrases "best before" and "use by" when reviewing expiration dates. For the former it is more like advice, for the latter is it a definite statement - do not exceed it for health reasons. Not sure if this is a European Union directive or just convention. Sorry, I don't know the Swedish for "use by".

Mohave:The "purified portion" gives you higher absorbtion, so it provides higher buzz than the nic content might otherwise indicate. It is also very dry, can last in higher temperatures and allegedly has lower TSNAs content.

I tried 6mg Energy snus and 3mg Wise citrus. The 6mg was a bit too high for me - and it is very difficult to cut it in half and use a half-portion as with starndard portions (I just cut them in half and have minis made of them). They taste very unlike standard snus.

Boy are you right, Frankie. Not only does it provide a higher buzz, but it does so much, much faster. I've tried many snus products, as well as other tobacco products, and have overdosed on nicotine only twice -- to the point of throwing up and being incapacitated for a half hour!

Both times followed use of 6mg Wise Wine and Chef snus.

Talk about a mule kick! And I was made sick each time within about 15 minutes of inserting the portion. Why this happens has been discussed on snuson.com but no one seems to really have an answer. Not even Sterk portions have that effect on me.

These are very clean products, by the way, with low TSNAs.

Does faster = shorter? Or do they provide the 60+ min. satisfaction of other snus?
