Default First (Swedish) Snus Try, Initial Impressions

Hey everyone! I have been lurking in this area for a while and decided to try the trial pack from GetSnus.com for $1. I can't find the right link for it because now it says $3.00.... I think you can still get it for $1.00 though.

Anyways, I have tried all the Camel Snus here in America while I was TDY and thought they weren't too bad. I don't really dip, but oddly I preferred Skoal Mint Pouches to any of the Snus.

First Impression:

I just opened it maybe 15 min ago. I popped in "General - Dry Mini Mint" and so far I think it's great! I got the usual burn-in for maybe a minute or two and now everything is solid! Nice mint taste and a decent nic buzz. No tobacco-mint taste like with Camel Frost and no real noticable saliva generation. When I swallow, there is no tobacco burn on the throat, only a light mint taste. It sort of feels like a have a weak mint in between my lip, soothing.

I will update when I try each flavor. So far so good. =)

To quote a certain alien from Babylon 5: "And so it begins..."

Good for you, Carti3r! You made a good choice. The sampler is a nice way to get your feet wet.

I still have some Camel Frost and Mellow, but now that I've experienced the difference between american and real snus, I find Camel a very poor second.

When I want REAL satisfaction, Swedish Snus is the Lexus of smokeless tobacco - Camel is more like the Geo Metro.

The mini mint is the favorite one here Carti3r, and also General Wintergreen white portions. The Skruf Cranberry is what I reach for when I want something different though.

And psssssttt...don't tell Elwin I have a Camel Frost in my mouth as I type this, hehe

I think Camel Frost is a perfect dessert snus. Not a mainstay, but ...

I have a Swedish Camel snus in my mouth now. Both the white and regular Camels are pretty nasty tasting. Not at all like American Camel snus (made by an entirely different company with rights to the Camel brand identification outside of the U.S.). I wanted the tins for my collection, anyhow, but won't order these again.

Gee I'm waiting for my tin of Camel to arrive from Northener. I thought this one might be pretty good now I'm not so sure.

You might like it. Not I, but everyone has a different taste for these. I've had both Camel products for about a week and use maybe three of each a day, while using mostly General Mint and Oomph Citrus/Menthol. The tins aren't that great either!

Among Americans names, I like Lucky Strike. Pall Mall is okay. 1847 is okay. Camel is the pits of my list of American names.

Why ya' little heathen - talkin' behind my back!

I didn't say that I didn't use Camel Frost or Mellow. I just said that I thought it was a poor 2nd. I still have it and use it. Heck, I have people here in my town giving me those "free tin" coupons all the time, so I'm not about to turn down freebies.

Carti3r - pay no attention to these Philistines. Just do what's right for YOU.
ANY Snus is still better than a cancer stick.
Heck, even Skoal is still better than a Marlboro.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled chaos...

OK, so I think it's high time I try this SNUS stuff myself. Would one of you experienced SNUSers (TropicalBob) suggest a site, manufacturer and flavor for me in a PM? Thanks in advance!

Actually, that question is of general interest, so I'll address it here. There are three primary sites to order from: Northerner, BuySnus and GetSnus. I've used only the first two, and find Northerner less expensive overall.

From their menu, look at "white mini" portions. Many here like General Mini Mint. Oomph is pretty good. I like the Lucky Strike white, but it's stronger than the others suggested. Basically, these are not so expensive that a mistake will bankrupt you. DO NOT ORDER A ROLL. Order individual tins until you find what you like. Refrigerate tins you are not using at the moment -- whether white or regular.

Also, you might see if Camel is available at a local store. It's very, very sweet, but that suits many just fine.

Google for specific URLs and good luck trying some.
