It is my understanding that the Swedish snus are pasteurized. This somehow removes some of the carcinogens. From what I have read the American Camel and Marlboro snus are not.

Some good propaganda type information in the above statement. At best a big exaggeration. Just had a cleaning/checkup a few days ago and my dentist is very glad I'm off cigarettes. Nothing unusual going on. Gums look healthier then they have when I smoked.

Some people do report some mild gum recession where the snus can touch the gum line on the upper teeth. Others report noticeable better gums after quitting cigarettes for snus. Get a Sonicare and some floss and you're not likely going to have any problems.

That's such a shame, all mint snuff with nicotine could save millions and millions of people world wide. I wish a company had the balls to step up with it.

Stonewall Wintergreen is a dissolvable pellet of tobacco with a strong mint taste. American Smokeless Tobacco's new Discreet brand has two flavors of snus in mint. They are quite sweet. It's out there ...

Bought a $1.99 pack of camel snus and got another one for free. Tried the frost and it was o.k. Not great, not bad. I still have to try the mellow on the way home. Don't see how i could become addicted to this stuff though. The pouch was visible, not too discrete. I guess i have to put it back toward my molars?

O.K. Update! I tried the mellow on the way home and it was DELICIOUS! It didn't burn either! It tasted like honey and sugar. There was a slight orange-flavored tea flavor too. Mmmm! I could like this after all!

I have a mellow in place at this very moment. These are indeed quite tasty. My only complaint will be price/value versus Swedish snus ordered online. RJR just thinks they can get more than $4 for 15 pieces!

Tropicalbob, I read somewhere that the camel snus has like 8 mg of nicotine? Am I wrong here? I remember reading that each marlboro light cig had 0.8 mg nicotine. Am i taking in 10x the amount of nicotine with the snus???

Okay, I'm not TB but I'll give it a try.

Here's a link to a good article by Swedish Match on nicotine absorption via snus

    Nicotine uptake - Swedish Match

Bottom line is that you only absorb about 10% to 20% of the nicotine in snus.

    A quote from the article

An experimental cross-over study of blood plasma levels obtained after controlled snus use of four different portion-packed snus products of various weight and format, different nicotine content and different pH values showed that the nicotine intake varies between 0.4 and 1.2 mg per pinch.
The nicotine numbers you cited are for absorbed nicotine for Marlboro lights. The actual nicotine content of the cigarette is likely about 10 times that amount. The trick in this is to not confuse actual with absorbed nicotine. Bottom line is that if you are a light cigarette smoker, and not more then a pack-a-day, you will likely do well with minis. Perhaps an occasional regular portion if you feel the need.

There are actually other things to consider with nicotine absorption. The ph value can also have an big influence. The higher the ph the more and faster the nic is absorbed. The came SNUS may have 8mg of nicotine but the ph is likely on the low side. You get about the same amount of nic as a higher ph swedish mini snus. Same goes for the Discreet snus from what I have been hearing.

    Hope this helps

I had read each cigarette contains 0.8 mg nicotine, but that we only inhale/take in about 50% of that. Hmmm... confusing!
