Default Mr. William Godshall, and reduced harm for smokeless. Science!

Harm Reduction Journal | Full text | Tobacco harm reduction: an alternative cessation strategy for inveterate smokers

Mr. Godshall is a passionate, informed advocate for harm reduction. He spent over two decade working purely on the anti-smoking side of things, working side by side with people like Banzhaf.

He is now a well known proponent for harm reduction options, including the E-Cig and Smokeless tobacco options.

Here is an article he coauthored about the reduced harm profiles of smokeless, and can be used as a primer I think for people interested. I don't use smokeless in any form, but found this article *awesome*.

Good link. I hadn't read that one.

Smokeless has a lot of studies behind it. They all point to a vastly reduced risk over cigarettes. Swedish Match has been doing phase III clinical trials on snus starting in 2008. That's the strictest testing level required by the FDA.

I still have a lot of hope that snus will survive the 21st century puritans. Much more so the e-cigs.

No reason not to give snus a try. The more options you have the better chance you have of staying off of cigarettes.

Very interesting read. This guy is a breath of fresh air from all the black and white-minded individuals who snub anything aside from 100% tobacco abstinence. Using safer alternatives like snus might not be quite as safe as quitting completely but it's a hell of a lot safer than smoking and should be encouraged to anybody who is has tried to quit with no success.
