510 vs EVO

Hello.

Any opinions on comparing the 510 and EVO? I have a 510 and I am considering getting an EVO, but was looking for some pros and cons.

Well, all I can tell you is that I have an Evo and I love it. I have a Janty Stick and I love it...but at the end of the day you can't beat the search function here. I know that you'll find DAYS of reading to help you make your decision!

Long story short, and take this with a grain of salt because I'm basing half of it on things I've read here and elsewhere about the EVO (I only own a 510):

The 510 - Race car. High performance but a little fussy. You have to work to align your style with it and get the best results. Once it's dialed in, it screams. But the battery life is pathetic, so you'll need a charging strategy. Dripping the 510 can be problematic due to the fact that the atomizer is at the bottom of the housing and it floods easily.

The EVO - Work horse. Solid build and good (not great) performance. Very consistent and easy to get the hang of. Long battery life, but smaller cart size, so more filling and less charging. Dripping works better because the bridge is exposed and the atomizer doesn't flood as readily.

But don't take my word for it. I only own one of them. As e-pipeman points out, there are a number of good reviews of each here, and one member just wrote up a pretty detailed head to head matchup on them.

If you're looking for a good,solid performer (good vapour, battery life, reliability, looks) than the Evo is excellent. Especially when combined with the vapour-tastic Ecopure liquid.

From what I can tell about the 510 it's a bigger unit, with a shorter battery life but more vapour. Most people who are real 510 fans like the manual switch, so take that into consideration.

I thought about getting the 510 to complement my Evo but now I think I'll just skip it and go straight to the Janty Stick for the big manual switch vaping performance.

I've been thinking about a Stick or some SD type mod myself. I wish someone made one that was more... attractive and stylish though. The all look a bit too spartan to me.

Hey to add a complication. I have started using 306 atomizers on the 510 batteries (actually passthrough more often than not) to get the easy (and I think flavor) of an exposed atomizer for dripping/dipping on a manual battery. I still won't leave the house with anything other than the 401s though. The one thing I would mention about the EVO (unless they have changed it) is that you get longer battery life with it even over the regular 401s, but it has a 2 minute time out after a 7 second drag. I don't take 7 second drags as a rule but I still figure out a way to hit that time out from time to time and it is the devil.

Apart from my rather irrelevant extra gibberish, Surf Monkey has it pretty well summed up for only having one of the models. Personally I feel like I am practiced enough with my 401s that the performance between the two isn't that big. For me it comes down more to the difference between exposed and recessed atomizers which I think comes down to whether you like to drip or use carts. If battery isn't a real concern for you and you like carts go with the 510. If you like no carts and dripping/dipping and battery life is an issue go with the 401 (the flavor thing is probably subjective anyway). Thats my $.02 after trying both and reading the threads FWIW.

Someone asked recently about this after my EVO review.

I have multiple 401 batteries (except one) and all my EVO batteries I can hit 10 seconds with no cutoff. The EVOs were just bought from innovapor.com, review here:

Note that at least in the 510 video, my camera was borked, doesn't show vapor properly. The 510 will out-vape and out-throat-hit the 401 and/or EVO, but dipping the right liquid on the 401/2/3/EVO can come close on vapor, a few notches down on throat hit.

I use both plus M201 regularly.

Battery life = M/EVO, close with or tied with M201 (surprisingly), then 510
Vapor = 510, then M201 and EVO/M (but relatively close for 2nd and third)
Throat hit: 510, M201, then EVO, but dip it and the EVO/M can be quite decent.

That is exactly what I was looking for. I think I will buy an EVO. I am looking for mild throat hit, not too harsh, but lots of flavor and vapor. Also longer battery life. I have 5 batteries for my 510 and I can still go through them in one day. So I think I will have the best of both worlds if I get both. Sounds like getting and EVO, dripindip and I will be what Im looking for. Unless anyone has any other suggestions.

i have a 401, but it has the new style widebridge atty's with it (evo type attys?, i'm not sure but they are better). It gives decent throat hit, decent vapor, but the flavor is unmatched by any of my other styles... I feel like i'm gimping flavors by vaping them in anything but the 401 and if i REALLY need to judge a flavor, the 401 is the tester.

It does have a 7sec. cutoff, but, there's no delay b/t another draw after i hit cutoff.. i still don't know why but it's like this with all 3 of my batteries....

it's still my go to, just has more of the attributes that i want (got through a whole DAY of work, and into this evening, still going) on one battery... When using it as a dipper, it's just about perfect (more vapor and it'd be perfect)... I also have a chrome'd, blingy 401, and it gets the most attention when i show folks what an e-cig is (compared to my others)... Doesn't look like a cheap, fake cigarette, but a classy PV type device...

@ShMiggy - odd, it seems like there are different cutoffs in the pipeline at different places. My EVOs continue to ten seconds, haven't tried to go beyond that. It does produce one heck of a hit then I normally go on average, ~5 seconds on my 510s, and 5-7 on my EVOs/M series..
