Weight gain with quitting
One of the most common things I hear from people that smoke and DONT want to quit is that they are afraid they will gain weight. Some feel this is because they will eat to curb a craving instead of smoking.
I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this, or if vaping reduces the chances of weight gain. One of my primary reasons for wanting to quit is that I would like to start exercising and working out, but currently, after being such a heavy smoker for so long, if I run 3 steps I'm winded! I'm just curious if I will have something else to combat with trying to quit.

My appetite actually decreased when I quit smoking and started vaping. I was so enjoying the flavors that I had no cravings for junk.

I have gained weight, but I retired in October and I think boredom is a big part of the weight gain.

I totally agree with you. Happened to me. But the weight gain was while I still smoked. When I quit, I was able to become more active, less bored..

My appetite has remained the same and even though I keep thinking I've gained some weight, I seem to have actually lost a little bit of weight instead. I've had zero energy (and some depression) since I quit smoking, though, so I think maybe I've lost some muscle (been exercising less) and maybe gained a bit of fat. Overall it's insignificant weight-wise, but I don't feel as fit as I did.
Smoke-free since Oct '09 thanks to ecigs!

I actually lost 4-5kg after replacing the cigarettes with vaping. I wasn't trying to as am a healthy weight (before and after losing the kgs). I think I eat less because I am vaping all the time!

I started on Atkins a month before I started vaping/stopped smoking. There's a nice little bonus to Atkins in that you get an appetite suppressant effect that kicks in after you get into it. That was 9 months ago and I'm 32 lbs lighter, and ever-so-much healthier. My coughing stopped immediately, I was able to run up & down stairs with no fatigue or breathlessness. Now, the stair thing was likely as much being lighter as it was my lung capacity but I do know that vaping has done wondrous things for my lungs. I won't be going off the low carb/high protein diet even though I'm at my ideal weight, because it simply makes me feel better overall. I know that's not the case for all, but there are people who just don't do refined carbohydrates well. Eliminating all white flour (most flour) and sugar can make a huge dent in your weight and can also eliminate a lot of nuisance health complaints. From what I've read, though, nicotine is the deciding factor in the increased metabolism (not the other constituents of tobacco smoke), so I would think you would not gain weight if you didn't change your eating habits. I vape very high levels of nicotine so maybe that helps?
