My reuleaux rx200 recently died in spectacular fashion. It was just sitting on my desk when I heard a sizzle sound, and looked up to see a white cloud rising from the APV.
I thought the batteries had vented, but as I was yanking them out of the mod, I smelled the unmistakable aroma of burning electronics. The mod was smoking hot (pun intended) and had obviously fired for its last time.

I pulled out the board, and the positive wire was completely melted off, and the small components around it were burnt black.

Now, I really liked it while it lasted, and am thinking of buying an rx200s. It doesn't really bother me when a 40 dollar mod doesn't last me years. I kind of expect that.
The issue is, that particular failure, right next to 3 lithium batteries, could have been disastrous had I not been right there to witness it happening.

If this was just a freak occurrence, I'll just chalk it up to bad luck, and buy an rx200s. If it is happening to other people, I just can't take that kind of risk.

I was worried about that as well since I'm guessing something on the board may have shorted to cause that type of failure.
I checked the voltage on the batteries, then ran them through a discharge>charge cycle, and they seem perfectly fine.

I'm going to guess that they were stressed though, so they'll be on the watch list if I have to reuse them.

Not sure I would expect better from the RX200s. Right out of the box with brand new Sony batts mine got VERY warm around the screen area with just casual vaping (only 1.8ohms, 11 watts). I'm sure if I continued using it, the heat would kill the electronics eventually. :(

My DNA200 RX200 does not have this problem. If I had kept the box, I would have tried returning it. But hey, it's cheap, right?

I can't understand why you would contemplate buying another one after that happened. There is a reason Joyetech/Wismec mods are so cheap. It isn't because they use high quality components on the board, good 510 connector, beefy wiring, or good after sale service!

After getting my DNA200 Reuleaux and seeing that Wismec/Joyetech basically cut every corner possible to keep production cheap (I have 9 DNA200 mods and it's by far and away the most cheaply made). I decided to stay away from Joyetech/Wismec products in the future. I'd rather pay a little more to buy a quality product. It's one thing buying a cheap mod, it's another thing getting a great deal on something of good quality. For example: I've recently bought a few Hcigar VT133's (DNA200) that Ecig.com is blowing out for $80. Most places still charge ~$130 and up for it. That's just a great deal. It's an excellent mod by the way.

Cheers,
Steve

haha If I had eight (!) good DNA200 mods, last thing I'd do is buy a Wismec.
I didn't at the time. I think I had three and they were all 3s Lipo's. The DNA200 Reuleaux was being blown out by Ecig for ~$110. I figured I'd try one to have an 18650 option and to also see what all the fuss was about (at the time the RX200 was all the rage). Believe me with hindsight being 20/20, I wouldn't do it again :D.

Cheers,
Steve

I rarely use my two RX200 anymore so the batteries just sat in them mostly unused. I too have a lot of DNA200 mods and it is stories like this that I now keep my batteries out of my RX200 mods. And you know after awhile of purchasing cheap mods, that starts getting old and you start buying higher quality mods so you don't have to worry about them self-destructing and your house burning down. Plus they last so much longer.
