So I'm looking into getting a Hammer Mech Mod, either the original or the clone from HCigar. I haven't decided yet because I've heard and read that the clones can be finicky or have quality issues.

I love the Aspire Atlantis tank.

Now excuse my newbness, but can a tank such as the Atlantis, or similar, be used on the Hammer Mod or any Mech mod for that matter?

I ask because when I see pictures of the Hammer or other Mech Mods, they always have a oddball Tank on them, are these called RDA's? Why are these tanks used primarily on Mech Mods?

I don't plan to build or rebuild coils, or anything of that nature. I enjoy the ease of replacing old atomizers with new ones.

Any help or insight would be most appreciated!

Can't comment on the mod, but yes you can use an atlantis on a mechanical, just like anything else get quality batteries.

Thank you for the replies so far.

I've read that the Hammer can use 18350.

The Atlantis is sub-ohm. Would the full size Nautilus (non sub-ohm) be more suited for Mech Mods that use 18350 batteries?

Lower ohms in the atomizer = less resistance and more battery output/drainage, correct? So too low of resistance could be dangerous and wreckless when using a Mech Mod because it's coming straight from the battery?

What ohms would be best suited for a 18350 battery for best vape? The Nautilus is around 1.8 I believe.

A nautilus using a 1.6 or 1.8ohm coil would be better suited to a mech using an 18350 battery. The reason has to due with the amp rating of most 18350 batteries.

Keep in mind, with a mechanical mod the only way to "fine tune" your vape is to change the ohm of your coil or build a new coil. With a high vv/vw regulated mod (and its buck/boost circuitry) you can "fine tune" with a push of a button. On a mechanical mod your voltage drops as you vape, with a regulated mod this does not happen.

If you are new to mech mods I highly recommend you spend some time with Baditude (one of our resident battery experts) and visit his blogs. You are now 100% in control of your own safety (and others around you). Make sure you purchase an ohm reader (if you are rebuilding) and a voltmeter or DMM so you can measure your builds, check for shorts and measure the remaining charge on your batteries.

Baditudes Blogs. The blogs regarding batteries & Ohm's Law are listed below:

BATTERIES

9. Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

17. Purple Efest Batteries not as Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

14. Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

16. Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics
