CASAA: Maine Call to Action: Oppose vapor taxes (HP 670)
HP 670 would deceptively redefine “cigarette” to include “e-cigarettes” for the purpose of taxing e-liquid at the same rate as traditional cigarettes. If adopted, this bill would enact a tax of 10 cents per 18mg of nicotine contained in any amount of e-liquid.
Please take action now by sending a message to the committee as well as lawmakers from your district urging them to oppose this bill.
This bill is scheduled for a work session on:
Monday, May 11th
1:00 PM
State House, Room 127
Joint Committee on Taxation
The committee will probably not vote on the bill on Monday, so please continue to take action after the hearing, both by sending emails and calling your legislators.
(Writing Tip #1) If you have a lot to say, please craft your email in a separate word doc and then copy/paste it into the field provided. If you take too long, they system will time out and you will lose your work.
(Writing Tip #2) Although we've provided a prewritten email with compelling talking points, we would strongly encourage you to edit the email because personalized communications to legislators are far more persuasive than form letters. At a minimum, PLEASE INSERT YOUR PERSONAL STORY (just a few sentences) in the text of your email.
