Torching the stainless steel on the AGA T2

So I'm messing with my first rba, which is the AGA T2.
I was wondering when torching the piece of mesh, whether to torch the whole thing, or just part of it?
I saw a video that said torch the upper portion. What are your opinions on this?

I like to oxidize as little as I can only around the section that will meet the coil.

I've got 3 aga-t2's and 6 stainless steel vulcans. I've made the wicks every which way I've read about. I have not been able to tell any difference regardless of the way I oxidize it. 500 wicks better than 400. I make the wick solid out of 500 mesh (little or no hole in the center) and a tiny bit smaller than the wick hole. I keep the fill screw in, and get no leaks and great vapor and flavor. YMMV
