Tried menthol crystals and found out that menthol doesn't really have a taste at all. It has odor and it stimulates cold reseptors in mouth but thats all. I really couldn't smell it when puffing. I like the odor though. Just one crystal to boiling water is enough.

Somebody has posted a review of Johnson's Creek smokejuice flavour and said that their arctic mint is a strong, fresh hit, but I haven't tried it myself yet (still waiting for sample packs in the UK).

I don't understand it either. I'm only a foetus e-smoker (1 day) and still use ordinary cigs (just a heck of a lot less of them). The thing is I am missing something from them both. Everytime I think I'll have a real cig I get the first puff in and think why bother - it is not much different from the e-cigs. It is actually vile tasting. Both have the missing factor. Maybe for me, that is taste related. I want something inhalable that tastes 'real' not like plasticky or synthetic. I want something completely delicious.

Has anyone found or made a juice that is so delicious they can't believe their luck or doesn't it matter much to you?

I tried a diy mix recently with LorAnn candy flavouring pralines and cream. It was absolutely wonderful. I've gradually gone off tobacco flavours and like the taste of food flavours better.

Kate I think I am going to follow in your footsteps by going more with food than tobacco flavours. It's the praline & cream description that dunnit, sounds very moreish.

I was looking at LorAnn's flavors. I like that they are concentrated, so you don't have to totally dilute the nicotine level. ANd I am tempted by the Bubblegum and Cotton Candy flavors. If I can get my sweet tooth satisfied without actual candy or snacks, well e-cigs will be helping my health in 2 ways.

Candy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tried homemade caramel myself and wasn't impressed. Maybe replacing water with something else would help.

I use vegetable glycerine, sometimes a little distilled water, LorAnn flavouring and some ready made eliquid for the nicotine.

There is no sugar, colouring or oils in the flavours I use, be sure to check the ingredients of the ones you want. The only disappointment so far is that the coconut flavour is a bit weak, it smells nice but doesn't have much flavour. Pralines and cream is lovely. I've only tried a few so far so I can't rate them all.

One thing I found out about menthol is that it reduces throat hit and irritation in general. So adding it to e-liquid might increase risk of nic overdose and might hide PG allergy etc.

According to JECFA Evaluations-MENTHOL-MENTHOL Acceptable Daily Intake for menthol is 60*4 = 240mg, for a 60kg person, so maximum concentration in e-liquid would be 0.24mg/(0.1ml*20) = 0.12000 = 12%. 0.1ml per cig and 20 cigs per day. Little error here as menthol density isn't 1.0 but 0.890. I would further divide that with 8 since there might be other menthol sources in food etc. So 1.5% or less. My personal opinion is that there is no need to add more than 0.5-1.0% since higher doses feel just the same.

I found diluting menthol to be little tricky. It just floats on top of 40% alcohol at room temperature. At first, room temperature menthol-alcohol mix looks like soda water being misty and all. I actually got little confused about this at first. What the hell is going on here, did some chemical reaction take place or what?
So what I did was heat a test tube with menthol and alcohol in hot water and it turned into clear liquid. It takes a bit of time but after repeating the heating and cooling process a few times it should look like clear liquid in room temperature. And this is when I think this dillution operation is fully completed.
